I started the taxidermy process #1 today. 100% skinned and all came out very good. I did end up breaking one eye lid, but it can be fixed. It is all rolled up, stuffed in a bag, soaked in water, and in the freezer. Sometime in the winter after the holidays I will thaw out and start the 2nd process of cleaning the skin and preserving the skin. This will start the picture story process.

Have you dune this befor? The reason I ask is I have tinkered in taxidermy as a hobby for 10 years and am willing to answer any questions you might have or give pointers and tips too.

Pretty cool you’re doing it on your own. I just caped mine and dropped it off at the taxi on Friday.

I've done about 20 or so over the last 15 years. This is my 10-12th buck. If I could do my life over, I would be have a taxidermy business. My arthritis stops me today. I know what I'm doing. I did all three of these. 2nd: salt both sides of the hide then clean up the hide. 3rd: chemical preserve (tan) the hide 4th: Put plastic inserts into ears, clay in the glasses eyes and clay mold where needed. Place the wet hide over ready form. Stitch the hide and pin/staple the hide to form. Let dry 100% 5th and finial: Brush and clean hide, paint nose, around eyes, and ears. Color touch as needed. I prefer plastic ear insert and glass eyes verses cardboard ear inserts and plastic eyes. Show off to all!!!

You do good work. On deer I epoxy sculpt the eyes in a day ahead then I super glue the eye lids in place so I do not have to worry about movement when putting on the hide or with clay drying. I still have to split eyelid but I remove inside skin at the lid edge. I agree on the ear liners and glass eyes. I use a liquid tan for hide preservative That way I do not have to go thru the pickel stage and I refuse to use a dry preservatives. I bondo my skull plate in place then screw. It is a lot easier than trying to shim and screw and its solid. I mix the bonds hot plop a gob down smush plate in and hold in place till set. Then I knock all off, slide on hide, set horns back in place and screw down.(I tube all my deer so less sewing)

Awesome work, like it a lot. I'm only deer. I've glued on eyes on last one. I still like using the clay the old fashion way. Great work.

Haven't started yet. Been busy with drain tile, backyard, and building beehive parts.
