Any advice on the pheasant draw hunts? Tomorrow is the first time that I have ever been drawn. Weather doesn't look the best, rain and wind.

Do you have a dog? If so, I'd let the rain break then put the dog on the ground and head upwind. Great thing about upland hunting is it is perfectly acceptable to hit the field at noon haha. If you do not have a dog, it would be tough but just spread out and start kicking brush. May not be a bad idea to put a blocker on one end in case any runners want to be trackstars for ya and wont fly.

HORN: Just prepare for the weather but don't over dress. Water and food for the dog. Keep your expectations low and you will not be disappointed.
I hunted 2 of these hunts over the last 3 years and it was a big -O- both times. The success rate on these hunts has been on a downward trend.

Thanks guys. I will be taking my Lab. He's a duck dog, never been upland. It's a day with my Dad and son. That's worth it. We will just see what happens.

As long as he has a recall on him, you'll be good. Just keep him close and let him hunt within shooting distance. You'll know when he's getting birdy--best of luck!!

Got selected for one roughly 5 years ago. I did not know that there were that many wild birds around. We saw 40+ pheasants and got our limit but it was a lot of work. They wanted to run like crazy, and with only 2 of us and a dog we couldnt easily send a blocker. It was a lot of fun and reminded me of pheasant hunts out in Iowa as a kid. No idea how the numbers are now, but a few years back we saw a ton!
Good luck

And what property did you draw? I was invited to hunt tin plate this week. I have never been but I have heard it is surprising how many birds use those properties

We got a few today. This was 1st time hunting a good population of wild birds. We saw a ton of hens and enough roosters.
