O.K. Guys. Recently I was on the ATV and saw that the winch cable wasn't reeled all the way in. I pulled on it a bit and it was in free spool. I tried the "in" button and while the motor works, it won't take up the slack.
It seems that I can't get it to go out of "free spool". The motor works.
Any suggestions on how to fix it? 2004 model. I tried turning the knob on the end to put it in gear, but no go. Motor works in both "in" and "out" but the drum won't turn either way to move the cable.

Have you tried looking on you-tube. Yeah, nothing specific to my problem. It's not the controller nor solenoid. The motor turns, but the clutch isn't engaging.

Every once in a while I have to hold the free-spool release knob while using the motor. Seems like the splines just don't get into alignment occasionally and the knob and shaft turn along with the drum.
Mine is a Superwinch and that may or may not work for your Warn.
