My old hunting buddy and I hit the lake today. Some pass shots but his lab made a great retrieve on a hen wood duck. Made the morning.

I have gone out 2 mornings for about 2 hours each hunt. Today I saw the first mallards of the season, there are the usual number of wood ducks and some teal thrown in for good measure. there are Canada geese around but they are staying in town or unhuntable ponds. Most all the crops have been picked in these parts so the birds are moving a lot from field to field. It's way to early to get excited about duck hunting.

Seen more ducks and geese flying over Walmart than any where else. Dont know where they are going or coming from but ain't from huntable areas.

Here was Thursday's wet hunt. Birds were working great. Should have had a few more but lost 2 even with the dog and poor shooting!

Reconnected lately with an old buddy who happens to be a avid bird hunter, if it has feathers he loves to kill it. He took me out on my first ever Goose hunt and we each had our limit of three after a couple of hours. He supplied everything all I did was buy shells and our breakfast after the hunt. It was a great time and I got a crash course in how to Goose hunt from someone with 30years of experience which was priceless. I was using his Benelli SBE which I had never shot before, funny thing is I probably missed my first six shots but got my limit with my last three shots. We were using layout blinds with about 50 decoys right at our feet. It took a couple practice runs to get the whole pop open the blind and sit up and shoot routine figured out but It was a sweet hunt. The photos in the previous post are the birds.
