What do you guys typically do right before season starts? Any final tips(other than not go) ex: calling advice. I have a few friends who said they would be willing to give this a try with me. While I do lack fowl experience, I have more overall hunting and shooting experience than they do. Any advice with how to deal with completely new and less experienced hunters?

Find a spot that's holding birds, you can either milk it for several shoots or you can go in there and burn it up in one maybe two days. I like to watch the weather for BIG changes then make plans to hunt. Hunting in warm weather, just isn't duck hunting.

I don’t have anybody to answer my questions so I’ve just been reading up on the forum. Thanks for all the posts you guys have made because they really have been the foundation of my learning.

While I am in Hamilton county, I haven’t been able to get access to private land. Therefore by default I’ll be hunting public. Now I know I’m not gonna be the only person out there and with that in mind, how far away should I be from other hunters so I’m not a douche; since I hate it when people sit to close to me when I’m in my stand. Also I had a question about shot size, is No. 2 a good size to use? What do you guys use?

I assume you are talking waterfowl so #2 would be used for geese and I read an arrival from a goose guide that stated that when his cliants use #2 as opposed to any other shot he has the least amount of crippling and the most amount of dead geese. Long story and he elaborated on his reasoning on why but I went to #2 and it seamed he was correct (my opinion) Onebentarrow

A lot of guys use BB for geese and #2 for most ducks. With my gun/choke combo I have found that #3 seems to work the best. The BB shells that I used to use seemed to cripple a lot of geese. I would have a lot of shots where I thought "man I know I hit it" but they wouldn't drop or would sail a ways. Switching to the #3s fixed that.
