I went out with my dad once a few years back in Ohio so I don't know much about waterfowl hunting but would be interested in getting more into it.
Where is a decent area in SE indiana to hunt? Is brookville too big? (if they even allow it)
Or would I be better trying to get access to a small pond somehwere?

We hunt some gravel pits. I've got buddies that hunt Brookville and the Ohio River out of tanners creek. If you can get some fields that's pretty productive too.

When I looked for places myself - I started by looking for bodies of water. Most towns have a reservoir of some sort, but many also have golf courses, quarry pits, industrial parks or the like that have water retention ponds and grass. These are magnets for geese. Use sat maps and the like to find these places and then your going to have to go and see for yourself. However you often can't hunt there. SO, what you do is find the "safe areas" for the geese and then figure they have to feed in a field somewhere and that is where I then look for other water as well.
Many times Indistrialized areas, sub-divisions or even golf courses are out of city limits or just on the edge. These areas tend to have ponds to control rain water and can harbor geese.
I found a great place a few years ago when resident geese by the 100's would leave town every evening and head out to a local (yet out of city limits) golf course. I found a small lake between town and this golf course and used 2 floating decoys and we shot bird after bird. I had to stop hunting there as the landowner had family that didn't approve of hunting the geese....easier to boot the hunters than argue with family.
