I bought a lifetime cooler this year for camping. For $97, it was well worth the price. After buying it I’d never buy one of the bigger brands at 3 or 4 times the price. If used correctly it will hold ice all weekend in 90 degree heat.

Had my igloo 52 quart cool for.....can’t even remember. Guessing around 30 years. Believe it was a wedding gift.
$3.50 for a large bag of ice will last me couple days.

I have a big pelican cooler for long camping trips. I have been very pleased with how well it works. The only thing I don't like is that it weighs about 50 lbs empty.

Beyond the price tag, I believe this is the biggest hang up I have about the new style coolers. For me, they could be worth the money if I was in an area very far away from ice access but getting the extra weight to the place that I'm very far away from ice access seems like it would suck. I freeze gallon jugs and they last beyond my weekend trips in my cheap old style coolers.

I freeze gallon jugs and they last beyond my weekend trips in my cheap old style coolers. The weight is a nuisance. I go on several extended camping trips a year. Up to 9 days at a time. At one time I thought I would never buy one of the expensive coolers. Then one trip I added up the money I spent on ice that week. Then I figured up the amount of time and gas I spent driving into town to get it. Suddenly that big price tag on the fancy coolers didn't seem that bad. I ended up getting mine on craigslist for half the cost of a new one. It's a 65 qt and holds a lot of food and drinks.

Put a blue tarp over the coolers and leave an air gap, or get them out of the sun some other way. That helps a LOT. We've also taken a cooler or two and completely filled them with ice to transfer out of them to the coolers with the foodstuff in them. Big white marine coolers. I have 1 130 qt and 3 150 qt coolers, along with numerous smaller ones.
