One thing I've noticed is that many hunters don't believe that CWD is a threat to our herd in Indiana and as such they tend to "pooh-pooh" any discussions about it.

Article stayed there was little response to having animals checked for diseases. Seems the state needs to require it, not ask for volunteers. Also curious to what laws they have in place for not transferring infected animals to other states?

I found it.
Colorado, also have established regulations addressing the transport of deer and elk out of CWD areas. Generally, states that have adopted carcass transportation regulations do not allow the importation of any brain or spinal column tissue and allow transport of only the following:
Meat that is cut and wrapped (either commercially or privately). Quarters or other portions of meat with no part of the spinal column or head attached. Meat that has been boned out. Hides with no heads attached. Clean (no meat or tissue attached) skull plates with antlers attached. Antlers with no meat or tissue attached. Upper canine teeth, also known as "buglers," "whistlers," or "ivories." Finished taxidermy.

Hello, I'm working on a story about CWD and the enhanced surveillance that DNR is doing this year and last year as Indiana feels increasing pressure from neighboring states that have CWD detects creeping closer to our borders. I'm hoping to chat with a hunter(s) about CWD and their thoughts on the surveillance and what that could mean if it found here. If anyone is open to chatting, please give me a call (317-294-7221) or send a message/email (sarah.bowman@indystar.com).
If I could hear back by Tuesday (Nov. 20) with my deadline, that'd be great. Thanks.
