Ever since 1934 the "DUCK STAMP" as we know it was a moisture activated stamp or otherwise known as a lick and stick stamp. It was required by the hunter to apply this stamp to the back of his or her hunting license and sign it across the face in ink to validate it. When the season was over the hunting license could be soaked in lukewarm water and the stamp would release and then when dry it could be added to a collection.
Several years ago the United States Postal service began offering the DUCK STAMP in both moisture activated and self adhesive.
For folks like me who have collected all of the DUCK STAMPS all of my stamps have been moisture activated until NOW.
Starting this year you can only obtain self adhesive stamps which when applied to a hunting license are forever stuck to that license and will be destroyed if you attempt to remove it.
This new stamp will need to be left attached to the original carrier in order to maintain it's integrity however this may not be excepted by law enforcement.
There are folks that have custom made stamp displays that were made to display the moisture activated stamps now those displays will be incomplete or disorganizes looking because of this move.
I know most if not all modern day stamps are self adhesive and this day was coming but I STILL DON'T LIKE IT!

Can you carefully cut and trim the stamp from the license?

Can you carefully cut and trim the stamp from the license? I have a life time license. The stamps have the serrated edges and that would be impossible to do. Today I spoke with one of the most renown hunting stamp collectors and we both agreed that this move will hurt the sales of duck stamps which means a loss of wildlife revenue.

Ever since they introduced the self adhesive style stamp I still continued to purchase the lick and stick and since I have a lifetime license I signed the stamp and carried it with the license (unattached) in a protective envelope. Every Conservation officer I encountered understood the situation and never made an issue about the stamp not being attached to my license.
The new adhesive stamp comes attached to a card that is about the size of a dollar bill and can't be folded without damaging the integrity of the stamp. I have for the past 20+ years purchased 2 DUCK STAMPS one I signed and used for hunting and one was left as a unsigned virgin, both would go into my complete collection at the end of the season.
In speaking with this stamp collector he would purchase a quarter to a half a page of stamps but now he is not certain he will continue that practice.
