Morrison:
Are HIP numbers State Specific? For instance, I buy a NR license in Texas and will be hunting a migratory bird, and apply/get a HIP number when I get the license.
Now I come back to Indiana (I'm a resident here and have a lifetime comprehensive Hunting/Fishing license) and want to hunt migratory birds, do I need to get another HIP number for Indiana? Even though I may be hunting the same species?
Thanks in advance!!!

The Harvest Information Program (HIP) is a program of the US Fish and Wildlife service. It allows a method for the USFWS as well as individual state to track harvest information related to migratory birds and waterfowl. The program, while it is a national program, requires you to obtain a HIP number for every state you hunt in. IN short, if you hunt in Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky, you will have to register for HIP in Indiana, Illinois, AND Kentucky. The website listed below gives an overview of the program and states the requirement in the last line of the third paragraph. www.fws.gov/birds/surveys-and-data/harvest-surveys/harvest-information-program.php
