can't stand it anymore, 2 years ago lots of turkey, quail and rabbits(in relation to todays numbers). last year numbers on all down. this year terrible. coyote numbers seem to be stable. jan snow cover showed me many, many more bobcat tracks. i'm sure deer numbers down also. when will we be allowed to hunt cats? if i wanted to stop hunting i would have released bobcats---they are the ultimate game takers. nothing left for us to hunt--no need to purchase hunting guns or supplies. hunting and gun control accomplished--legally and quietly. speak up stop the back door control of our rights by liberal politcians (

Thinking that a hunting season for bobcats will be an uphill battle. A lot of people will not want them hunted for any reason.

I think we'll have a season within a couple years. Bobcats also surely take a few individuals of the species listed in the OP, but I doubt they're taking enough anywhere to make a significant difference in game populations. There are probably as many bobcats per square mile at Crane as anywhere in the state, and you can't hardly drive down the road without braking for turkeys.
IMO, the bobcat recovery in Indiana is a conservation success story, with very little to no credit going to politicians of any flavor.

I'm with lawrencecountyhunter on this one. Doubt they take anywhere near the number of game they get blamed for. As far as lack of rabbit, turkeys, and deer. Im seeing as much if not more of all then in the years past. Everything eats rabbit. Turkey eggs the same. Control nest robbing predators and you'll have more. Loss of habitat kills more of all these than any predator ever could. Bobcats are the new coyote. Instead of looking at real issues it's easier to place the blame elsewhere.

I will support whatever the DNR thinks we need on this one. With that said, I don't think I could shoot a bobcat. We've always had one or two domestic cats in our household and I like cats. I would pass any bobcat unless he was clawing on my leg...

I’d pass one too, right on to the taxidermist for a full mount.

I like dogs a lot more than I like cats, yet I'll shoot a coyote any opportunity I get. I got to watch a couple half-grown bobcats play off and on all day this past season from the deer stand. I probably wouldn't shoot a juvenile, but would love to take a full-grown one.

Hi all, this is Sarah Bowman with the Indy Star. I know that the Indiana Natural Resources Commission has proposed a rule to allow for a hunting and trapping season for bobcats (as you mentioned above), with two public hearings for comments coming up next month.
I'd love to get some thoughts from folks about sightings of bobcats, why you might hunt/trap them and whether you are in favor of or against this proposed rule change (and why).
Let me know, feel free to respond here or email me (sarah.bowman@indystar.com) or give me a call (317-294-7221).
Thanks!

I’m in favor of a season as long as the dnr sees the population is fit for one. I know two deer seasons ago I watched three of them for well over an hour from my deer stand. Also getting pics of them on trail cameras. They are predators and will take out turkey poults and Fawn deer when they get a chance. That would be my reasoning for hunting or trapping them. Plus I’ve always wanted a full body mount of one.

I wunder how bobcats taste. I've had dog, but not cat that I know of. Not sure of everything I've eaten with my travels to China, Japan, and Taiwan.

As Dave said I am perfectly content with the addition of a bobcat season. I’m sure if the dnr thinks they are ready to be harvested they are. The only thing I would like to see considered heavily is some type of weapon or date restrictions that prevent them from being opportunistic harvest for deer hunters. I would however prefer it be trapping only so we didn’t have to have weapons restrictions.

I have 3 different bobcats showing up 80 yards behing my house on a weekly basis.
I would support a limited quota harvest.

I wunder how bobcats taste. I've had dog, but not cat that I know of. Not sure of everything I've eaten with my travels to China, Japan, and Taiwan. When my son was around 6 he ran the line with me a lot. One day after dispatching a bobcat we were walking out and he said "why don't we eat bobcat, I want to eat this one" I took the hind quarters of, my wife steamed and baked them. I thought they were bland tasting like cougar. No real flavor at all.
