It's 2:35 am the temp outside is 56 degrees with a stiff south wind, a lot of the snow is melted away and I think I have open water on the pond.
So today I have two choices I can either try goose hunting or pickup where I left off raking leaves from last fall.
I will let you know what happens later today.

I brewed 5 gallons of brown porter last evening, 60 degrees, no bugs. It was close to perfect.

I’m pretty sure all the geese and some of the ducks are hiding out in Greenwood. I’ve seen hundreds while driving around today.

I should have raked leaves! I had open water so I drug out the boat and put a small spread of goose decoys out. For over an hour it was goose central and I was right in the middle of it all,I saw probably 6-7 hundred geese but they were leaving water and heading out to feed in the freshly flooded fields, they weren't interested in my setup. The ducks on the other hand were the thickest I have seen in years, had them landing in the goose decoys the whole time I was out there, even had a Canvasback drake. The weather is supposed to be ugly tomorrow so I will give it another try before we freeze up again.

Yesterday it was near spring like conditions today just the opposite we have strong north winds 40 mph + with temps in the mid twenties and dropping. Where there were hundreds of ducks yesterday there were only a few today but the geese are still hanging around.
I left my goose decoys out yesterday knowing that today's wind would be perfect for my blind however I started the morning off by wrangling a few decoys that got blown down wind so I reset them tucking them hard to the north bank right in front of the blind.
Geese were moving constantly today looking for food and shelter and when they worked me they were right in my face. Got my birds out of 2 flocks than I sat back drinking coffee enjoying the day with my dog.
BIT OF ADVISE: These birds did not want to be talked to. When I attempted to call flocks I got a negative response, when I didn't call they came right in bucking the wind. Let your decoys do the job.
