I've been discussing this with oneshotwade..
On I 64 heading east not far from the Exit 25 to Evansville there is a backyard facing I 64 that has maybe a dozen or so War Plane weather vanes. They have been there for at least 15 years.
Anyone else see these and do you know the story on them? Maybe a retired Air Force pilot?
Next time I'm in then neighborhood I'll take pictures..

I've heard the guy is retired and makes them all by hand with scrap parts. Don't have the inside story where he worked. Drive by them when I go to Perry county weekly.

The guy has some real talent, they're pretty realistic. I've noticed that some are starting to rust a bit, seems a shame since he went to all the work to build them.

I picked up my grandson’s deer meat and took it to his mom’s house. I passed the airplanes and stopped to take some pictures. A gent in the back yard waved at me with a motion to come to the fence. I had to wade through some briars (ouch!) to get there, but I did it.
I remarked that I was admiring his planes and a member on my website said he had seen some like it along a highway in Missouri. He said he has a couple planes in Missouri but they are in a museum. He said he also has a couple in the Evansville Museum. I asked if he had been a pilot and he told me he was never in the service. He said tried to enlist in the Airforce in 1957 as he loved planes. He wanted to be a plane mechanic as mechanics was his training at the time. They would not take him because of some medical problems.
The planes are all made out of sheet metal. No wood involved. He said he was a self-taught tin smith. He had nine planes up, but he had donated the other 4 to the two museums. A couple of the planes were showing their age and had some rust spots on them. He said he was not capable of getting them down to restore them. The man has had cancer for over 20 years with a major operation taking out a huge section of his intestines. Other than that he looked in pretty good shape for an 80+ year old man. He was a talker for sure.. I’m guessing he was lonesome and quite proud of his handiwork, as he should be.
Neat planes and interesting gent for sure…

I remember that there were planes there back in the late 80s, since my family would go to lynnville and camp out at a friend's house every summer. We would go fishing, and frog gigging back in what is now called Interlake. When going into Evansville to see family, we'd always make it a point to see if there were any new planes.

Wait, Your grandson got a deer? See... Grandson said after this morning’s hunt when he passed two spikes - “GPA, I’m done passing. One day left and I’m going to get my first deer. Anything with antlers is going down.”.. So we hunted the food plot this evening. He is on the south end where he can cover 2/3rd's of the plot and I’m on the north end covering a 1/3rd. Just at sundown a deer comes out halfway between us. I put the binos on him and see he is a yearling buck. He comes out in the food plot starts eating and turns heading my grandson’s way. His last mistake. He feeds on down and I’m watching through the binos when BOOM! Down he goes. We were both very happy to have Matt get his first deer under his belt! He is a fair sized yearling buck. My grandson is 6’5” and 250 pounds. Post hunt picture of “Mutt and Jeff:”…
