According to these two books the top buck was:
197 1/8 killed by William W. Cripe in Clinton County in 1974
Strange , eh?

What a awesome deer. Congrats to that young man on a trophy. Who cares what it scores. People get way to caught up in inches and size. Already seen he was supposedly baiting already on a FB site. People just try to tear ya down and discredit others. I saw the post I think you were referring to on Southern Indiana Deer Hunters site. The comment didn't say anything about this hunter baiting. It was a comment that if a deer was shot in a state that allowed baiting the author felt that it should be noted in the record book with a *. Not sure why he felt the need to post in the thread about that , as he is not from around this part of state nor hunt's in this area that I am aware of. Just wanted to clear up that I have heard nothing negative about the harvest of this animal or hunter himself. One of downfall's of harvesting a monster buck is all the jealousy and being examined under the microscope... LOL, neighboring landowners property value's just doubled as I am sure there will be all kind's of inquirer's of land for sale in that area.

This is the exact reason why I would never post pictures anywhere if I was to kill a buck of this caliber. Very few people would even know about it. Close friends and select family (you have to watch dealing with family. Lol). I don't need the back stabbing and untrue trash talk in my life. He would go one the wall for myself to enjoy. Not spend the rest of my time putting out untrue rumors.

Not spend the rest of my time putting out untrue rumors. I hunt a bunch of various properties all within Elkhart Co. I would not get any more specific than that and the landowner would be sworn to secrecy LOL! Seriously though, I have only had the pleasure of ever getting pictures of a 180+ buck two times in the last 10 years....chances are that I'll never have to worry of this.

Hmm must’ve been some kind of problem with the kill scoring or taxidermist maybe? The Books Has changed hands over the years... Read here www.hoosierhunting.com/idharb.htmlOnly once...and the IDHA got all the records and files.. Maybe Cripe's deer had a "problem" and was deleted? Dunno.. Dodd's changing score? That is a bit of a mystery..

Not completely true... I know folks that had deer scored and paid before the change and there was no record of the scoring for the IDHA to go off of.
Some of the scoring before the change was not always done correctly also..... just saying
BTW.... any conviction of game rules and your intery can be removed by director. That basically goes for all record Books.

After reading a full front page story of this deer in local paper today, it sounds like the deer is going to tape out around 187 typical. So the state record is safe from this challenger it appears. That came from the hunter himself.
