Hog hunting season is about to wide open. We slipped out the other night and let the dogs work for a couple of hrs. Got to hunt with some different guys with some different dogs. Left most of my dogs home but did take Lady. She is 2 years old and is starting to come on strong. Had a great time and caught 1 small boar hog. All the dogs did good and Lady was in on the action. That's Lady in the picture.

Nice work. Where were you taking the one in the trap?

Nice work. Where were you taking the one in the trap? They all get processed. Keeping the hog alive let's us hunt longer without taking a chance on the meat spoiling. If the weather is cool enough we will hunt from daylight to dark sometimes.

Are you a guide or an outfitter down there, or just a guy who likes to hunt hogs?

Guessing second hog is still alive, just hobbled.

Both hogs are alive. Just haven't loaded the one up yet. I am just a guy who likes to hog hunt. We take a few groups with us every year but do it for fun mostly.

Guessing second hog is still alive, just hobbled. Ha. At first glance I thought the shadow behind it's ear was a hole.

hugedogleg How many dogs do you normally run? Breeds? I always thought that looked like fun, like a high octane coon hunt.

I varies. Usually 4 or 5 at a time. We will take up to 15 and rotate them in and out. Bull Dogs and Dogo for catching. Blackmouth cur and Catahoula for striking and baying. These are what my dogs look like. They are half catahoula half yellow Blackmouth cur.

Those 2 dogs are my old gyps Whodoo and Nugget. They Bayed this guy back in Oct. Before Deer season got going. We won't hunt during deer season.

This year's prospects. Squeaky and Newt. Both are 3/4 pit bull and 1/4 Dogo. Newt won't be old enough to start til May but squeaky is ready to roll.

This was old Meathead. He was the best catchdog I ever had.

I caught this boar back in September. I was hunting by myself so I left the bulldogs hooked up til I got the hog secured. Decent boar weighed about 170.

hugedogleg Do they release the hog on command or do you have to pry them off? I saw a show once where they had to use a bar to pry the catch dogs off the hogs. Also, what part of Texas do you hunt?

You usually have to use a break stick to get them off
