At F&W areas you usually just sign in each day. F&W area rules and maps are on the DNR website along with contact info. Do not expect a lot of info from the area staff as they are not guides. You must have the proper license too. Don't forget to sign out at the end of the hunt. Other public lands I do not know about.

Where do you normally sign in and out at? Is my main concern. Is there a building on the f&w areas. Like when you do upland put&take or going to a sportsman's club?

Again that varies by property if you give a specific property maybe people on here can help you with that but I've been on a few different properties and they had different check in rules. I always get on the properties website or call them and find out how they like things done.

Some solid bowhunting out there at the slough if you spend some time scouting...never been myself but I had a buddy south of Crown Point a while back that loved that spot. He has since moved to Missouri otherwise I'd connect you two.

Try this site for Fish & Wildlife areas. www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/3077.htmFrom the Willow Slough map So with the proper licensee you go to the headquarters where you will sign in. The sign sheet usually has a line for your PRINTED name and another for you SIGNATURE. Most will have a number that you will write on your huntcard. This card needs to be with you all the times you are in the field. Go to the area you want to hunt, find a parking lot and go hunting. At the end of the day fill out your card and drop it off in one of the drop boxes. If you want to change areas just change. I usually note that on my card. Really simple. If it is not too much trouble carry out a little of any trash like cans and bottles you may see. Makes a difference. The hours headquarters are manned is usually on the map. Have a plan B, C, D... Here is a link to Google maps of the area. You can use it to find timber, fields etc www.google.com/maps/place/1803+S+700+W,+Morocco,+IN+47963/@40.9790455,-87.5088323,3419m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x88120a5e81766bad:0x76514ebb95ac5ecf!8m2!3d40.977296!4d-87.517072 HAVE FUN AND BE SAFE.

When I have been to Willow Slough it's not been very busy. Never been there during firearms season though. Take a look at the map and plan an area to hunt. When you drive in to the office to sign the release and get your card, drive by your intended area and check for other vehicles. Have a plan A, B, C, D. The office is on the west side near the dam just past the boat ramp. Drive back to your chosen area park and walk in. Be safe and start learning. I've seen many does there, but always out of range. www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/files/fw_WillowSlough_map.pdf

Don't overlook that Kankakee Sands area, have heard it can be good deer hunting. It's actually a Nature Conservancy property, but managed by Willow Slough.
