Time has arrived...ready to join the convo again and hope everyone has a safe and happy season. Looking forward to everyone's updates and pictures. Opening day of Urban Season is next Friday the 15th and state wide is Sunday October 1st.
Father, we ask for your protection and safety as we come into another hunting season. We pray for all the men and women who will be in the field to take time to be still and enjoy your peace in the moments alone in nature. We pray for patience and clarity to make safe decisions and to move slow to avoid tragedy and accidents. Allow us to be still in the moment with you and your creation as we are blessed with the freedom to experience these moments. Safety, protection and clarity for all, I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Be safe ladies and gents. Shoot straight and don't forget to breathe:)

I've been slowly getting things ready. I took a 1 hr lunch Tuesday and put up a ladder stand on an oak ridge. Took another 1 hr lunch today and scouted a new potential spot along a power line.
I'm meeting my BIL tonight and we're moving a tripod stand and a ladder stand back into the woods following logging this past spring. I've had a camera out there for about a month that I'll pull while I'm there.

I got my bow out the other night and flung a few arrows. I was a little rusty, but about all of them were in the kill zone on my 3d target out to 40 yards. I'll try to practice at least a couple times a week leading up to the season.
I changed out some straps on a ladder stand at my parents' place yesterday. I was going to move a hang-on I have out there, but then decided that the best spot was where I already had it. I need to try and brush it in somehow though, because it's on a field edge and very visible.

Shot my bow and washed my clothes. Need to check my straps on my stands and I'm all set. Note for the fellas: I am going to get my wife some flowers and leave them for her Friday morning when I'm in the woods to find when she wakes up. She will now be a hunters widow and I will be in the dog house Gotta keep her happy

My hunting starts by proxy with my nephew doing the gun shooting Sept 23! As does mine with my 17 year old grandson. Our last year. He told me he is really looking forward to it because he wants to talk about joining the Army when he graduates. He is meeting with the recruiter today. Could not be prouder of him. Grandma is on the other side of the ledger but not saying a negative word to him. Proud of her too for her discretion.

Shot another 50 arrows or so this afternoon, groups are tightening up a little thankfully.
Just noticed my avatar pic from way back in '05 when I was younger and still had hair...same bow, that was it's first season. No telling how many deer that thing has put on the ground but maybe this lucky 13th season will be its last.

The doe that hangs around even during construction with 3 fawns. Picture through the window.

Well, my season is going to be interesting, to say the least. I received an e-mail today from the landowner of the largest farm I hunt informing me that logging will commence in 2-3 weeks. Lol! It was scheduled for years ago, but some sort of lawsuit involving the logger has kept it postponed until now.
I've seen deer walking around on a much smaller property while loggers were felling trees a mere hundred yards away, so I'm not extremely concerned about that aspect. It's more about how open the woods are going to be in the future, as well as how bad the briars are going to become.

Now after a few years the woods are very thick and better for the deer. I mean really thick. The left over tree tops will change the trails and make t hard to get through the woods. The bucks love to bed in the tree tops. In the long run it has helped the property. Funny thing, the big oak trees and other mask trees near the property line where left. To risky to drop. Guess where the deer go in September/early October?

Hung a last minute double ladder today for youth weekend. On a ditch line between 2 small bean fields that has quite a few decent bucks hitting it, a couple in the last hour of light. I'll stay out of there til the youth hunt now, can't wait!

Had a doe under me at 6:40 before legal light. It slipped off in the brush. Going to give it a lil longer before I need to get back to work

Well my morning opener had to wait, got up this morning to go and there was junk all over the garage. Left the garage door cracked for the cat and a possum found a home. Finally found him in a corner hiding in some boxes. Grabbed him and the sun of a gun bit me in the wrist, then it was on, possum lost. Didn't hurt him but he knew not to be in my garage anymore. Cleaned the garage and picked up. Try again tomorrow.

Thanks deadeer, I'm fine. Just startled more than hurt at the time. I spared him because it was my fault for grabbing him without a glove on. He was just trying to get away.
