My family and I have killed 15 squirrels this season. Only 2 have been this year's squirrels. All the rest have been older, some much older. Also only 3 have been females. We are hunting reservoir property. Could the past terrible flooding have something to do with this? We are not seeing anything close to the numbers pre flood. Down cycle or drowned?

Just the opposite here..been killing a lot of young squirrels...we are fortunate enough to have many places to hunt...as a result we will hit a place hard one year and then give it a break for 2 years...when we come back there is always young squirrels to be shot.

I have noticed the decline in younger squirrels. I have also noticed a decline in squirrels over all in the area I'm hunting. I know they will move around along with their food sources. But they have not even been in the walnuts and there are plenty of those hanging on the tree. A few have been cutting in the pignuts they usually hit early. Iv'e been out 5 time and only seen 2 squirrels that were on the move. I dont even have them on trail cam on a feeder that I have up.
But we will "Hunt On"

Same thing here not seeing any significant numbers. Plenty of mast. Maybe a down cycle?

In my area the red tail hawks and great horned owls are in high numbers. It seems my area has 0 squirrels and or rabbits. Same for the turkey hens, 0 out of 15 hens.

Here where I hunt have seen very few squirrels as opposed to other years. Was thinking maybe the ol marlin was to hard on em last year but maybe it's just a down year
