Lakes and ponds up in Northern Indiana lost their ice with all the rain on Monday/Tuesday.

Last night the fishing was not to hot, my brother in law landed a decent northern and we only caught 2 walleye and a freak tullibee that we seldom see in this lake. Still building ice on the lake but with the fresh 18 inchs of snow we have gotten in the last two days I'm sure it's not creating a lot. Did have a muskrat come up the hole and things got a little exciting....hahaha

My neighbor is up in Oshkosh, Wi. right now at that ice fishing tournament. He said 25,000 entrants. 24"-25" of ice there.

Caught a dozen today in the rain. Kept 6 for the fryer for some tacos tonight. One bass had eggs already.

From the pond yesterday. A buddy brought his son over yesterday and he caught the middle fish. They are 13"-14" and averaged 1 1/3# each. Stocked in early Nov at around 3/4# each.

Nice day spent with a buddy on the pond, but the fishing wasn't worth a damn. The pond looked like a barnyard mud puddle. I caught one small bass and one nice crappie. He is a fly fishing snob and spent the day battling the wind and drinking my beer. The water temperature was 48-50. I usually catch enough crappie and bass at this pond to get out the fillet knife, but I think the stained water was the issue. The one crappie that I caught was on a silver curly tail grub with a white jig head. Electric chicken is usually the color of choice, but not today.
I don't foresee any fishing this week. Weather man says low 20's to low 40's and windy.

Caught a mix of crappie, bass, channel cat, and bluegills this morning. Listening for turkeys only heard one and saw a hen walking through the yard. Darn near went in garage. Not sure what she was doing.

I hadn't even thought of that I will try that next time I'm fishing to "fish the wind", however every single time we've fished while there has been a north wind we don't catch anything. Of course I don't fish the south side of the lake whenever the wind blown from the north.

It will stack the warmer surface water there, and the fish will move towards it.

HMMM, I had no idea. I just thought every time the north wind blew they were not biting for anything. I will try that this weekend and let you know. Thanks guys.

The other thing about a North wind is that it typically is a post cold front phenomenon and fish typically bite the least post cold front. Wait 1-2 days for them to get used to it and the bite will pick up.
I have terrible luck if the wind is out of the East. I think there's truth to the "Wind from the East, Fish bite the least" saying.
