I just ordered ruger's new American Ranch rifle that's now in the .450 bushmaster for deer hunting on public property.
Very impressed with the range reports and looks like a fun gun to shoot.

Nice; you'll have to let us know how it shoots. I think you'll like the .450 Bushmaster.

Called "The Thumper" for good reason!
Thumps on both ends.

Recoil on mine is actually not bad at all, pretty similar to my Winchester 30-30. No doubt the kick will be more stout in a lightweight bolt action though.
I wasn't familiar with the American Ranch Rifle, I looked it up and it looks pretty sweet.

I wasn't familiar with the American Ranch Rifle, I looked it up and it looks pretty sweet. I'm sure the gas system helps a lot. Did you have to go with a rigid buttstock? A friend had to change out his collapsible on his .458 Socom because recoil was making the collapsible stock flex. Rigid stock shrank groups.

Ruger put a muzzle brake on this rifle to help with recoil.

I never tried it with the collapsible stock, but saw where that could be an issue.

Be curious to hear how this shoots. Most of the Ruger Ranch Rifles I've been around were not very accurate.

Wonder why Ruger just didn't introduce that model in .450 Marlin?? Your .450 bushmaster uses a bullet diameter of .452" which will limit it to using pistol style bullets. This might not matter but if I am the market to buy a .45 caliber rifle I'd want one that uses .458" diameter bullets. The .450 bushmaster's parent cartridge is: Winchester's obsolete .284 Win. and has a rebated rim.

The Hornady .452 FTX 250 grain is built for the Bushy. That is their standard loading for the cartridge. There are also excellent 200 and 275 grainers available in Barnes.

Jason, I forgot about the .452" Flex-tipped bullets that are available today as I am use to using Hornadys' XTP type bullets. Also, recently read that Marlins' .450 didn't go over that well, especially for those who like and use the old .45-70 Springfield cartridge. I've been tempted to try some .430" Flex-tipped bullets in my Ruger 77/.44 Magnum, to see how they perform especially with 225 grain bullets. When the weather allows to do some bench-rest testing of loads, I'll order a couple of boxes and shoot some groups from my Ruger 77/44. @ some 75 yards. [Sorry folks I didn't mean to "hijack" the thread]

Also the belt on the 450 marlin might not work so well in a semi auto. Imo the 450 bushmaster is the rimless twin of the 460 S&W. Both are thumpers!!
