I've got some buddies that would like to do a trip for snows during the conservation season. Anyone have recommendations for guides? It'll be a long weekend trip so not wanting too long of a drive.

I am heading to SC IL on Thursday to hunt around Carlyle lake. It is east of St. Louis so probably 3 to 5 hours from anywhere in central IN. I hear the better guides book fast but may be able to find some new guides or a canceled hunt. I lucked in when the group going had a guy bail.

Was in southern IL last weekend and the snow geese are definitely around. Saw quite a few huge flocks, both flying and on the ground.

Way to go. Must be a great trip. I'm gonna have to do that one day and I'm not even a waterfowl hunter.

Well anyways...the guide South central Illinois snow geese was good.
Checked in with him the night before and drooled over his deer and waterfowl mounts. Lots of big deer. One was a 162 8 point...very nice! Stayed in his campground bunkhouse. Then ate at a great lounge in Keyes port.
Finally at the field with 4500 decoys set, I sat in the pit blind while a few odds and ends were put together.
Morning rush had lots of passers-by but no shooting. By noon we had 5 or 6...1 or 130 pm the birds slowly filtered through
By 3 we had 42 on the ground and accounted for. Watched flocks come off the lake by the 10s of thousands for 1 hrs in the evening but none headed our way.

span870 was supposed to get me a black hoodie and some face paint but hasn't yet so I can't hunt geese plus my barrel sticker says duckdestroyer so don't know if it will help with geese as good as it does ducks
