Well, I'm back! Enjoyed some good duck hunting in WA. We shot 79 birds while I was there, usually only two guns in the blind. Now to cook some of this meat!

cube then can them in a pressure cooker. Use the meat in place of roast beef or stews. Pot pies, chili, bbq etc. When I used to slay geese that is what I would do at the end of the year. Really good.
Past that I'd grill them or cook in stews.

Last day of central zone we ended up with a gold eye and gadwall. It was cold out there! We ended our central season with 21 ducks and 3 geese. Man it was a cold rough 2 days. Fought ice and birds that didn't want to work. But finished with a decent weekend.

I was on the river today. My buddy lost 12 decoys and broke a blade off his prop. I kept hearing in my mind, you have old duck hunters and bold duck hunters. But rarely do you get an old and bold duck hunter.
I saw 0 geese today. I was floored by that. figured we would see a few. Actually was hoping most of the locals would be on the river but nadda.

We hunted a deep, deep pit over a hundred feet. Had ice around edges, open hole in middle. We busted a lot of ice to make it work. Several ducks, and hundreds of geese. But believe it or not we had only open water around and the birds didn't work all that well.

We did something similar yesterday and left with 8 shovelers between the 3 of us. Had about 75-100 shovelers on the water South of us and maybe 15-20 geese but by the time we left we were cold wet and ready to head to warmer places lol
