A man who loves to fish even in the winter months was caught and fined big time for fishing illegally on Bluegrass Pit during the Waterfowl hunting season.
All the lakes at Bluegrass Fish and Wildlife Area in Warrick County, IN are off limits to fishermen during waterfowl hunting season.
This rule allows the ducks to use the water without interference from anyone other than legal waterfowl hunters during waterfowl hunting season.
But some people don't play by the rules. The guy who broke the rules knew it was off limits and admitted that he tried to sneak in there to fish for a few hours. If everyone did that they would scare all the ducks away. Imagine fifty boats out there motoring around during duck hunting season. It's hard enough to get the ducks to use the place without additional people on the waters.
Anyway be warned that the duck hunters have IDNR on speed dial and if you launch your boat on these waters during the closed waterfowl season to fish that the Conservation Officers will be waiting at your truck and boat trailer to give you a big ticket.
Fish at your own peril. A ticket is the least of your worries. Getting shot at by a mad duck hunter would be what I would worry about.
It's all about respecting the rules and other sportsmen. The area is small and there are a lot of different people using the facility year round. Everyone has to share the facility and play nicely with each other.
There are plenty of signs posted about these rules every where you go out there to launch a boat. So there is no excuse for not knowing the rules.
I was on another web site reading comments about this incident. People can get down right nasty about things like this. There's approximately 200,000 to 300,000 people living within 50 miles of Bluegrass Fish and Wildlife area and only 2500 acres of land out there to hunt and fish on. So we have to learn to share the facilities. Indiana DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife sets the rules for all these different IDNR facilities. Please obey the rules.
