Hey guys. I'm new to duck/goose hunting and could use all the tips you have! Maybe even some obvious ones! (To an extent)

If you find the birds the rest is easy.
hide well only call enough to get attention until you can read the birds don't skybust you don't need $1000+ shotgun or loads of decoys Find where the birds are or want to go.
Learn the ducks in flight as many have special limits. Not knowing is not an excuse.
Have fun. Then you will go broke on calls, guns decoys, blinds, dog, waders, more decoys, gas while scouting....

If you are like span870 it just took black hoodie, face paint, truck decals, and bands off ebay and tada he's a duck hunter. He was looking for the barrel sticker "da meat pole" for his rusty 870 to take him to the next level before he bailed to be a bunny chaser.

Haha! Well I have some decoys waders and a gun already. How does weather/wind affect them? How about ice?

It affects them big time.
Keep wind to your back or crossing. Birds like to land into the wind. Depending on weather conditions will dictate where they go to feed or loaf.
ice concentrates them. Snow cover and ice moves them

This about covers it. It's also pretty good meat on the table. Specially when it only cost about 195.00 dollars a pound. Lol

Lol On my way to check traps today, I started to think about how much I spent on licenses this year. Just for me I'm sure it was $200. I sure don't hunt because it's a value added meat on my table.

The entertainment/family value far outweighs the actual cost. To me that makes it priceless.

LOL So much joy even by myself, but when a family member or friend joins the hunt, the value grows exponentially.

That's why I havent ventured down that road yet. Still waiting for Jon Snow to take me on a waterfowl hunt. Lol

Yea I have had the gun waders and decoys for about two years but never went. My younger cousin tried many times to get me out there but I never was able to go when he went. He passed away this fall at the age of 20. We had plans for years to come of duck, deer, and turkey hunting. So here the last few weekends I've began duck hunting the last few weeks and am hooked. I just wish I would have went with him while I could. So right now, I know that when I'm out there, he's right there with me.

I know I have similar thoughts while hunting that reach many of my friends & family that have passed. Best of luck. What part of the state are you hunting? Best advice I ever got was to go with guys that knew what they were doing. I was floored first time a guy pointed at a bird flying across the horizon and declared it to be a teal. But in time you pick up the hang of it.

I hunt in southern Indiana. I live 2 minutes from the Goosepond Fish and Wildlife Area so it's my main area

dang...good area for duck hunting. You shouldn't have any problems. I hunted over there 2009 - 2014. Hunted Switz City and Lyons mainly. I live in Springville about 45 min drive and the scouting was too much for me to keep it up over there. When I changed jobs in 2012 it got even worse. I kick myself every year for not keeping a few fields to hunt.

Picked up my first 2 calls today. Buck Gardner Canada Slammer and a Hydels mallard call. Bad part is I've been so sick with a sinus infection and cough that my chest is killing me when I try to call. These are the first "new" items I've gotten. My blind and all my decoys are 2nd hand.
