All I can tell you is what I was told by the hunter who shot the buck, I have not called the landowner back to see if the story I was told checks out. Yes they have the hunter on camera according to the hunter looking for a blood trail? I dont know if it was before or after the deer was shot but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Could be a lot more we do not know, I know the area being hunted, never hunted there but it big dollar country. The area we live in out here is where Steve Chancellor lives, he's the guy who has dinner parties with Presidents and movie stars so you get the idea of big dollar, just had Trump here this summer. There are a couple of 100 acre plots out here owned by individuals who do not hunt and will not allow hunting. I'm gonna remove myself from situation because I don't know who's right or wrong, I just hope it all gets resolved. You did alright in my book, when you didn't have to.

Just a prime example you gotta know and respect property lines, do all you can to have good relationships or at minimum understood relationships with neighbors.
My parents have two sets of "idiot" neighbors who have learned the hard way we will report you should you shoot over lines, or cross lines without asking. All it takes is a phone call and a plan for us or a CO to accompany you for recovery. In these cases it is due to trust has been broken and they know it, and know if they don't call first charges will be pressed....despite the past poaching and trespassing we will still not withhold from them a legally downed animal that was shot on their property and crosses onto ours.
I agree with someone above, the leasee should realize there may come a day he has to cross the line to recover....trespassing or not a face to face and iron this out is most definitely needed. Hunters view other hunters as the enemy far too much, trust me I know when another hunter is your enemy I deal with it every year at one place.

I'm lucky, good neighbors for the most part. We had one bad neighbor that put a stand on the fence line and point the stand towards my brothers property. He sold his place a couple years ago and have not met the new neighbor. It's a small reality home property. I think around 50 yards fence line on the back side of the property.

Hey guys sorry I have not been back on here in awhile. Been kinda sick about the whole situation. Just an update buck was never recovered. And to answer a few questions I have not been on his land since he bought it about 3 years ago. He told me when he bought the property he had a problem with trespassers which I know people that used to hunt that land when it was owned by previous owners. He seen me on trail cameras the night I shot the buck and the following morning before I had gotten in touch with him. I did cross the line to look but only went maybe 50-80 yards in on those two occasions. My aunt had seen a ton of buzzards in the opposite direction I last saw buck and where I was looking days following the shot. I assume it turned around and went that way but I was never allowed to look. Mr. Nunning did tell me he looked and didn't find the deer. I had wounding one and on top of that the buzzards tell me I probably killed it since I have not gotten on camera since. This weekend was my first time back in the woods havnt been on here or out since just felt sick to my stomach about hunting since.
Words of encouragement he did tell me if it ever happens again call him right away and he would be out there as soon as he could to look. not thrilled I was not allowed to go look with him or that I was not granted permission to look but after all we are neighbors and have to respect his wishes. I know I will always let someone look for a downed deer and i would be the first one there helping them look of it was on the property I hunt but that's just me not everyone is the same. Thank you all for your words and hopes of me finding my buck.

Keep your chin up young man, I didn't know Tim bought that property. If it happens again I would hope he would allow you to find your deer. If he doesn't let me know.

Question: The property where your buck headed is a lease right?

Question: The property where your buck headed is a lease right? From what the land owner told me he leases the property in sections and that section that connects to the property I hunt is being leased. The conversation did lead to if it was ever open I would like a shot at leasing it and he said he would write my information down and get back to me so we disagreed on not letting me look but atleast I do not have a bad association with the neighbor so that's a plus for future encounters.

I hope the person who leases that property never needs to come across the property line to track a deer. You know what they say about karma?

exactly. Sad thing is most who will not allow a neighbor on to retrieve game is a deer hunter as well. not always but majority of the time. When I lived north of Evansville, back in 2006 during the archery season, a similar occurrence happen to me. A Bow Hunter, hunting on our neighbors property, shot a nice Buck that ran onto my property. He had to go to work and didn't have time to look for the Buck, so he called me about his situation, and I told him I would look for it on my 15 acre, and call him if I found it. He returned and we, with the help of his Father-in-law, and my Brother looked for about 1 1/2 hours for his Buck. We finally found him all tangled up in Honeysuckle; we got him out and I helped field dress him and load him up in the Hunters truck, shake hands with the Hunter, and off he went. I would never deny a Hunter, who calls me about this situation, to retrieve his harvest if it happens to be on my property. There comes a time when it happens year after year because they are hunting too close to the property line and you have to cut them off. Deer didn't go to waste. They were encouraged to hunt elsewhere farther from the line or be denied entry next time, too.

They have the right to hunt every last square inch of their property, just as you have every right to deny them entry to your property. ;-)

Now they just know that to secure permission to retrieve a wounded deer that crosses the boundary that they need to be courteous enough to set up far enough away from the property line that they aren't shooting across the line. They actually admitted to shooting across the property line the year before the property owner denied them access to get their next deer. If they can't show me a blood trail leaving their property, it's a no go. I hope they keep that in mind wherever they are now. Because we don't have to worry about that anymore, that property is a coalmine now. Had to move on to less green pastures, but there is nobody hunting right next to where I hunt now. The neighboring hunter must have much better hunting in another part of his property because he says that he and his brother do not hunt the side next to my little spot. And I make contact with all the neighboring property owners in advance to make sure that I would have permission to trespass in the event that a wounded deer would make it far enough to cross onto one of them.

I can 100% understand his hesitancy to just say "you need on go". We have a neighbor that broke our trust in a big way, and we've explained they cannot EVER step on our property by themselves. Either my father or I (or a CO officer) must be with, but we made it clear a downed or shot deer will never be denied them EVER. Work on gaining back the trust as you have, conversations like you had suck but build it back for sure! Good luck rest of the year!

Not hunting close to property lines will not solve this problem. As everyone knows deer sometimes can travel a long ways before they expire.
