I have never accurately guessed an upcoming fall/winter season but this year I have noted the following. We had above normal heat and humidity continually for several months with no breaks, my humming birds left about 2 weeks ago which is early,I have not seen any wooly buggers crossing the roads however those that I have seen were entirely black in color. The experts predict a colder than normal winter that will linger into the spring months with above average snowfall for those of us that live near Lake Michigan as the result of lake effect snowfalls. It is predicted the first real blast will hit us in late November. I tend to agree with and I hope the experts are correct because this could make for an interesting duck season and as far as the cold goes I have already purchased my winters supply of propane.
BRING IT ON

My favorite prediction from the Farmers Almanac, and why they are always right, is......"cold, with periods of snow". Lol. As said, bring it on! The wood shed, cupboards, pantry, freezers, AND generator are all full and ready to go. Unfortunately, my job requires me to be at work ALMOST no matter what. So, a snow excuse is never an option. I have driven thru several "state of emergencies" to get to work and home, and so far so good.

Your ranger can handle it, I got a 2013 crew with a snowplow. I'm down south so don't get much snow. As far as the weather, hoping for cold with snow. Plenty of wood cut and stacked.

There is no reliable way to predict weather beyond a few days, too many variables that are in a constant state of flux.

This year I will make sure the snow thrower is attached to the garden tractor before I leave for my annual Wisconsin deer hunting trip. I put the snow tires on the car before I leave every year.
Other than that, I'm behind schedule. Not much wood split/stacked but it IS cut. Probably should dig out the generator and fire it up. Being in the Lake Effect snow belt even the weather people can't predict what will happen 2 weeks in advance.
3 years ago coming home from Wi, it was clear skies and 28 °F almost the whole way home. 7 miles from home I ran into a wall of white, and by the time I got home there was 8" of snow on the ground at the house. Lake Effect at work..... I didn't even bother unpacking the car that night.

Our horses are starting to get winter coats already. This is early for that.
