I wasn't satisfied with ziplocks, clingfilm or freezer paper. I threw out a bunch of venison because it was freezer burned. So I did a bunch of reading to find out what other options there were that I was overlooking. I decided that getting a vacuum sealer was the way to go. This site in particular was very helpful in teaching me what I needed to look for when I was looking to buy a vacuum sealer. I wound up buying a Weston Pro-2300. I also signed up for the vacuum bag discount club that is on the site and have saved a bit of money that way. Also if you haven't tried Sous Vide yet you are SERIOUSLY missing out.

Hi stuart, I've been thinking about a vacuum sealer; I'm sure it's the best way to keep items frozen. How much was the one you bought?

Sous Vide is IMHO the best way to cook any type of meat but especially wild game. You can get it perfectly done edge to edge every time.

I got a vacuum sealer several years ago because I was tired of freezing fish in water/zip lock bags.
It does a great job on sealing the fish and deer meat. No freezer burns on the deer meat at all. Stores a lot easier in the freezer and thaws faster when your ready to cook.
You can find cheaper freezer bags on ebay or amazon or other sites.
I have a foodsaver vacuum sealer, just an entry level one. Nothing fancy.

Hi stuart, I've been thinking about a vacuum sealer; I'm sure it's the best way to keep items frozen. How much was the one you bought? Hey Jon! Sorry for the delay, I was away for most of this weekend. The Weston Pro 2300 ( link here) is the one I got, it runs for about $350. Some of the major reasons I chose this unit over any of the FoodSaver ones are that you can do large batch seals consecutively all day long and you can buy major replacement parts to keep it in service for a very long time. With most FoodSavers you can only seal a few times consecutively before having to wait 20-30 minutes for it to cool down, and you can only buy replacement gaskets. The GameSaver FoodSaver units you can do many consecutively, but you will still have to wait for it to cool down eventually. Not the Weston, it's got cooling fans so you can literally run it all day processing your kills. Cooking Sous Vide with it is just a major major perk.

No joke, it is seriously a challenge to mess up your meal if you cook it Sous Vide, especially with the newer circulators out there. Which one do you use HuntMeister? Let me know if any of you are interested in checking out the one I use. I can start and stop a cook from literally anywhere in the world since it is connected to Wifi and it has a phone app!

I'm not sure if I can do a multi quote so sorry for posting so many times in a row everyone If your FoodSaver kicks the bucket, I am really thrilled with my Weston. Read over the guide if you are curious. I also strongly suggest joining the vacuum sealer bag discount club from the page. It's practically zero effort and I've saved a good chunk of cash when I went to buy some bags. I spent that money on ammo lol

Yep more bells and whistles than I need or am smart enough to utilize. I just turn it on, set the temp and set a timer on my range after putting whatever I am cooking in it. Soft boiled eggs with an immersion cooker are out of this world as well!

Thanks! This certainly sounds like a good one. I'll book mark it, and see where I can get the best deal when I'm ready to buy. I did a lot of research and Amazon actually has the best deal on it. It's better priced than the Weston site itself. I also use the Anova precision cooker. Here is the exact model I use. It was well worth every penny. My taste buds are so happy.
