I started out late this early season seeing as I was in SD shooting prairie dogs. But anyhow I got back the late on the 6th and went out to my parents place the next morning for dove and goose. My dad and I set up in a mowed field with two round bails next to it for cover and we got 3 doves and one goose. Next day we went out but the rain didn't do us any good so we got skunked that morning. But today was a great day. Aside from the mosquitoes trying to carry you away. We both had our thermacells going and spray on. We set up a blind ,using part of our shooting backstop, next to a field that we just got done tilling and planting for a hay field. Put out the mojo dove and 5 clip on dove that we had hanging from stakes in the ground. The wind moves them around like they are feeding. Over to our left we put 2 goose decoys. Also had my Buckmark rifle just in case a coyote strolls on by, which has happened before, just out of range of the shotguns. This is what we got today. We had more doves come in when we weren't ready for them and yes we missed a few. But it was a great day. Just after we got back in we had four visitors stop by, I couldn't get to close for pics, but four Sand hill cranes.

You sure are whacking the geese this early season! I haven't seen any other than high flocks after legal shooting light.

Today was a good day too. we had a large flock coming our way and got them to commit to our 4 goose decoys. I should have had 2 but the blind stopped the swing of the gun. The first one I pulled on I smoked him because after they fell and the others were leaving there was a cloud of feathers like you had just smoked a dove. One of my dads got the full blast in the head and even bulged a eye out. Brings our total for geese to 10 and dove 10.

I shot about 200 rounds this trip and maybe 100 dogs. The later season they get smarter and don't stay up long for misses or the sound of the gun. It was pretty windy the first 2 days so that doesn't help. It is a blast, definitely a must do or add to your bucket list.
