Once again the DNR screwed up the reserve hunts section in particular the put/take reserve hunts. Those of you who tried to reserve a hunt early this morning found out the DNR contracted the payment portion to what appears to be a private contractor and when you were directed to that site you found out it was not up and running. I tried repeatedly to register but the system would not function. This morning first thing I called the service desk and was told that the system was down and they didn't know when it would be up and running. I asked about the hunt requests I had filed during the night and was told that those would be nullified. 15 minutes later I get on line and now the system is up and running so I enter the dates and locations I want and I am told that one of the dates is filled, it wasn't a second earlier I paid for my hunt and returned to the request section and now this date is gone. I recontacted the help line and was told sorry the system is down I tell them that it is not down and that I just paid for one and cannot get the other date up, I am told sorry and that's it. UNACCEPTABLE.
Last year the DNR provided a map of a property that I wanted to hunt and from this map I chose the area I wanted to hunt only to be told on the date of my hunt that the area I had selected was not available because the DNR had failed to download a new map and that the area I had chosen no longer existed.
Two years ago the system was so over loaded that it kept shutting down forcing you to totally reenter several times.
This entire put/take process only takes maybe a day or two to totally close out you would think they might get this right.

I haven't seen anything yet about the military or state park deer hunt results. Aren't they usually posted about now?

from the DNR
DNR Dear Put-n-take registrants,
Our put-n-take pheasant system encountered several problems this morning from midnight to 7:30 a.m. You are receiving this message because you attempted to purchase a spot during this time frame and were unsuccessful. The online system is now working for you to apply for hunts.
We apologize for these issues and worked diligently with our contractor this morning to get this resolved as soon as the problems were identified. We know that this is totally unacceptable and understand the urgency involved with first-come-first-serve hunts such as these. We also feel your frustration as we worked to get this fixed.
While this is no way makes up for your lost time and effort, we will be sending out gift certificates to anyone who tried to apply this morning and was unsuccessful. Additional details will be coming to your email inbox as we work to get this resolved.
Indiana Division of Fish & Wildlife
Nice gesture however I still never got the date that according to my printout was submitted.

It would be nice if the state had the funds to pay for quality service.

The state has the funds they just don't check and double check all systems before they start using it then when it fails at 1:00am there is nobody to correct these problems.
