Is the day we get to go into the woods to shoot us some deers as long as you take along your bow and arrow. Just thought I'd let everyone know. I know deer hunting really isn't on anyone's mind what with all this electioneering going on and I didn't want anyone to miss out!

Thanks for the reminder Nfalls, it almost slipped my mind . I get a little bit of a headstart this year though, and I'm not taking the bow.

I shot a doe on Sept 15 a couple yrs ago in the urban zone. Within minutes she was covered in flies and mosquitos. Sick as heck. Along with that is immediate icing down. Never again will I hunt in the hot weather. I can wait. Lol

I'm wondering how many guys do plan on being in the woods Oct.1???
Me and the grandson are planning hunt. It will be good for him to sit all day and not see anything but a squirrel.

A cool morning to me is 70 degrees, i usually kill a doe the 15 or 16th every year to satify the bonus buck. Never had a problem with the meat or bugs. I take it home and skin it and process within a couple of hours.

I will be for sure. I'm hunting public land and feel early season is the best chance before the yahoo's start romping around the place.

I will be out on Oct 1st. Wouldn't miss it. I may skip hot weekends after that, but I will be in my favorite stand on the 1st . It never fails I see at least 1 good buck opening weekend. I'll let an arrow fly one of these years.

I'd have to check the calendar but I plan to be out there every chance I get. Back in school Tues-thuraday through 10/15 then it's Wednesday mornings only for the rest of the year. Looks like a new record hours in a tree this year!

I will miss opening morning for only the second time in 25 years. My daughter has a big cross country meet that day. She has put in a ton of work over the last year to improve her times. I will be cheering her on instead of sitting in a tree. I'll be out that evening though.

I rarely hunt before Oct. 20th, usually later. Too hot and too many leaves for my taste. I would probably get out earlier if I had some field edges to hunt, but I don't.
I hunted much more when I was younger, different job, no kids, and had more convenient places to hunt. I killed a few deer in October, but the earliest was on the 17th. I have always found Halloween to be the magic date for me. I have learned to really focus my time (and vacation days) from then until the firearms season opens.
