As you know Woody I do not think the xbow is evil and as I am sure you also know it is just the age thing I am having trouble dealing with. 40+ years of walking into the woods with my bow is a real hard habit to break. Believe me I WILL ENJOY THE UPCOMING SEASON ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.

Good luck and let us know what you do decide.

I've been dealing for two years with a similar problem . I detatched a tendon in my draw arm . I first thought it was tendonitis but it would not get better . I had to get two injections of cortizone at the elbow . This helped me through the end of the 03 and through the 04 season along with a brace . I lowered my draw weight and still couldnt draw without pain . My confidence was going down the tubes quick . Practicing was nearly impossible and it depressed me to no end . I had been bowhunting for nearly 30 years and I was about to give it up.
When our state passed crossbows in March ... I bought a crossbow and my interest and attitude was turning around . I soon realized that crossbows were very similar to traditional archery equipment . Then all the commotion began between certain bowhunting groups and Fish & Wildlife . The roller coaster effect was again taking its toll . Will I have to sit out this season .
About a week ago , I discussed it with my family doctor and we both agreed that surgery was probably my only option when I was ready... until then leave the tradtional archery methods alone . He signed a hunting methods exemption for me to use a x-bow . Now I'm getting fired up again .
It was a pride thing I guess , but when it got right down to it .... I wanted to continue to enjoy the archery season ...just like I've always had . Dont overlook this option . Sometimes we all just have to do whats necessary for ourselves and suspend those thoughts on how you think you will be perceived by others . If they were in our situation I dont think they would do anything different .

Thanks JD. If you knew me you would know I don't give a flip about what someone else thinks. I will be 65 this year and have been blessed with many years and wonderful memories of hunting with a recurve and then my old Jennings. I have fought the change for a few years now, had therapy, cortisone and it worked just fine as long as the weather was nice and warm. Sitting in a tree, getting stiff and then pulling the bow is another thing. I still plan to check out a lighter bow to see if I can get another year or two. Aging is hell but it sure beats the alternative. I think I will make getting Kevin1 his first bow kill a priority.

I am ALWAYS READY for deer season!! I do not have any of my stands hung just yet, but I have hunted the same 7 trees every year for the last 15 years. I normally start hanging stands in early September..
I have my Mathews Q2XL and Mathews LX shooting my Rocky Mountain broadheads in nice groups, I have seen lots of deer traffic in my hunting area and I have LOTS of confidence in my equipment, location and shooting so .. I am ready to "GET' ER DUN!!!:"
GOOD HUNTING FOLKS.. Bud Fields

Been shootin bout everyday when i get home...redid my permanent stand (pretty much the only stand needed but i still use others). Im sure there are many places as good in Indiana...but none better than that tree. Major projection point where the deer come from the old grown up 20 acre cow pasture/apple orchard into the field with corn, beans and hay. If i was a deer. Id walk through there myself Got some stuff taken care of at solos as well last weekend. Little bit more odds and ends and im set. Workin on gettin the brother dialed in now. Man i gotta do everything lol

Got one stand up, two more to hang. Have an old deer target I keep outside of the shed. Well, the other day after some terrential rain, decided to set it up for some shooting. Let's see, about 90 degrees, 199% humidity, yeah, the perfect time to shoot! Anyway....target was so water logged, the first GT zipped right through it and burried 6" into my cedar fence! So yep...I'm ready for cooler temperatures and burying my arrows in a rib cage instead of my fence! ;D Hey Keith, I just took a job north of Lagrange....how far are you from there? We should try to get together and do some shooting, and Karioki! Ha! LOL. Jon
