Anyone getting prepared for deer season? I drove to Jackson Washington State Forest to do some scouting Saturday. Today I got out the compound bow, waxed the strings, set up my target and am heading out to shoot. Been paying a lot of attention to my place here in Hamilton county. Decided not to bush hog the woods. I am covered with deer. Only 529 deer harvested last year in this county. Nonetheless, I have a bunch here. Last two years I have taken two 200 lb + bucks on my place. I ran over a fawn bush hogging one of my bean fields in the Spring. First time in 19 years that has happened. Something good is happening here. They are hammering my beans. Thank goodness I have a day job!

I've been out scouting some public. Put up a camera at my parents' place. Still need to hang one at my in-laws.
I have a couple stands that need moving, I'll probably wait for some cooler weather before I tackle that job.

Always something to do. Sprayed my soybean plots with Roundup and clover plots with Cleth Saturday. Will plant Brassica plots within next month. Going to jerk down stands this week and get them up to the shop for some re-work, then reset them soon. Need to sight in some firearms. Need to drag out the archery gear and start shooting periodically. Just finished my hunting cabin, getting it geared up and furnished. Hardly have time to work a job

Is anyone getting prepared? I didn't know I was suppose to stop or take a break . I've been at it since season closed. At the very least I am reading , researching and thinking on a daily basis. No time to rest or let up I'll do that when I die.

Jerked down five ladder stands last evening and hauled them up to the barn for inspect, repair, rework. That sure was a hoot in 88 degree temps.

Nothing yet but once we start going out for squirrels we will check out the ladder stands.

I built a 4' elevated enclosed blind last summer, worked out pretty well.
I'm thinking about building an elevated platform this year, probably 4 or 5' tall, 6' square, to place a regular pop-up blind up on. My girls are starting to get big enough to come along some, and the blind really helps conceal movement. And even getting just 4 or 5' off the ground really adds a lot of visibility. I've already got a spot scoped out for it, just need to buy some treated lumber and get to it.

Getting prepared!?!? My wife is already sick of how I am only watching the outdoor channel and the sportsman's channel. This is the true itch of the sportsmen. Stands are up, licks out, camera out. Bumped a fawn last week checking cams. Heck.. I have already bought my bundle tags!

Been considering a pop up blind for it. You just made up my mind. Thanks. Gets real cold up there when the wind is blowing. The blind should help with that a lot.

The only thing I'll do is put a baited cam out on August 1 and leave it out 2-3 weeks. That's the extent of my deer preparations after over 20 years in the game. Lol!

I've been hoping and wishing that they will be where I want them to be when I am there and hunting them

I can't tell you how many times a day I think about hunting. See, I'm old with low testosterone, but deer get me excited!
Hey, I know this will go over like lead bricks, but I'll be guiding for Rodney Bruce this fall. I'm excited!

Just replace sex with guns and hunting for me.
