I'm looking to possibly add to my tools and can't decide so I thought I would ask you fine knowledgeable fellas. I want to get a rifle to use on my new property I have to hunt on. I will hunt some open spaces but mostly deep woods. It is very hilly and a lot of ridges where I plan on concentrating, but it's not super thick under brush so I wanna get some range in there too. I'm considering a. 30-.30 single shot that I can pick up used for a pretty good price. What else are some good rifles to hit the 100-200 yd range but not a hassle to carry through the woods?

H&R handi rifle in 300 blackout(if you can find one), or a mossberg mvp in the same.

I figured most rifles would be good in that range. My 300 blackout shoots pretty flat and this is why I like it. I have a 30-06 that I think will be good, but I haven't shot this one yet.
My 300 win mag will stay in the closet. The bullet doesn't come back down to level plain until 200yds.
I've never had a 30-30, but bet it would be fine. I've never had a 243 either, but bet it would even work.
You are more than welcome to shoot my guns to see what you might like.

.30/30 would be good. .308, .30/06, etc. would also work great. Zero at 200 and hold dead on out to 300.
Most of the animals I've killed with my .30/06 have been under 100 yards. My cow elk was 10-15.

I can get a single shot. 30-.30 with scope for $125 . I'm looking to go cheap because I've already spent a good deal of money this year on hunting equipment, but if I can find a good deal on other calibers I would consider it.

A Handi-Rifle would probably be your lightest choice. I sold a brand new one in .300 Blackout after the proposal was shelved last year, replaced it with one in .357 Maximum, and when this HPR bill passed, I traded that one for another in .308 Winchester. Lol!

I do have a friend that would let me take his sks or .308 but I think the. 308 for deep woods would be over kill now the 7.62x39 sks is tempting lol.

I found one on gun broker current bid is $205 . If I could off my .54 t/c hawken for the right price quick enough to pay for the gun and a nice scope would be ideal.

Wow! I paid $239 for mine brand new last year. I guess those days are long gone, since Handi-Rifles are no longer being made.

Your choice of a single shot .30-30 if fine. If you are willing to spend a bit more on a nice light & handy rifle, then I go with a CZ Model 527 in 7.62 X 39 m/m. I have one in my collection and it is very accurate, light weight, very low recoil, and handy for hunting in the woods. You should keep your shots under 100 yards with this caliber.

On the same token i just traded an LCP for an ultra slug. With the ammo and holster included I came out ahead, a couple more years and ill be really pleased with that trade.

Been shooting rifles in PA since before I was old enough to hunt. Take the 30-06 and dont look back. The 30-30 will easily cover that range also. .243 Will handle that with ease as well.
