There's no such thing as a free lunch. And drs the state of Kentucky and federal government owns your property anyway. Show me proof, can you submit a web link?? Also I am still trying to figure out why my property ownership has become to-days point of interest. Mostly in a negative way from some members here. I pay my property taxes promptly each year, probably the first county resident to do so. I am also sensing a bit of jealousy from some here. no jealousy from me ive got a wife two healthy daughters and a Cabinet full of food. its probably because you are repeating the fact that you have bought and paid for it outright and pay your property taxes every year so its free to hunt as for the link, give me a second

Im going to go out on a limb here and say there aint a single person here jealous of you .... the point a few of us hava been trying to make seems to be escaping you, which is fine by me. Im not going to lose any sleep over it.

I recently (just this spring) joined the land ownership club. And I agree completely with those saying it is cheapest hunting you can have....long term. Yes it costs you money, unless gifted but land is not a depreciating thing (except in extremely rare situations). My 22.2 acres I stole honestly....and it already could be flipped for double or so in less than 2 weeks time compared to my purchase price. So sure it cost me but it has a positive value not a negative. All the habitat work costs and such I could do for years and the place still holds a higher value than my all encompassing investments. My land cost me "x" which I would fork over in probably 10 years time or less on a solid to good lease....BUT I own it and will continue till the day I don't... Great post, tynimiller, and yes there is quite an advantage in owning your own land for hunting or for anything else. By having your own land, you don't have to pay a leasing fee, don't have to "knock-on-doors" to gain permission, and you know your hunting property will always be there. After all they aren't making land anymore and available land is getting rarer each year. Since living here, I've had six offers to buy my place. Each person left their name & phone number if I ever decide to sell. Even had a Realtor knock on my back door and wanted to know if my home/property was for sell. It seems that a couple were driving by my area and turned in my driveway. They fell in love with my place and wanted to know if it was for sale.

I know someone with a early 2000s hyundai dealerships call them wanting to "buy it" from them and sell them another car.

Govt owns it....if you think you own it stop paying your property taxes and see what happens in less than 24 months. Rent on mine pays all taxez and then some. It makes money guess I get paid to hunt it

best thread in a long while....money can't buy this entertainment Maybe "entertainment" for you & others in this forum, but I certainly have been humiliated by some members here. I find some very insulting and immature, toward me.

Govt owns it....if you think you own it stop paying your property taxes and see what happens in less than 24 months. Yep we are all tenants and the .gov is our landlord. Privately owned property is a joke. Not one D or R has the decency to do anything about it either (or even the desire). And yes I hunt on my "own" property.

Those who don't believe in owning your own place will always find fault in those who do. If it's great for hunting and it's hunted by the owner...........your jealous. If it's great for hunting and it's not hunted....................your upset.
Owning your property clean and clear that includes land, home, cars and the necessities is the greatest feeling a hard working person can have.
Those that do will understand........ those that don't will never get it.

make no mistake about it. I am all for owning your own piece of heaven to hunt. I have a small piece and it is awesome. It was not free. I had to pay to play.
If i could have it would have been more. No jealousy here just in the boat that owning your land is still paying.
I have my own fishing boat too...it isn't free to go fishing either.
Enjoyed the read guys carry on

Question: would you consider a state game preserve or some type of government owned wildlife area as free hunting? It so do you and every other responsible citizen pay taxes and if so is a portion of that tax money used to support that area you call free hunting if so then there should be no complaining about all the problems that occur on those lands.
Yes there is no such thing as free hunting, you either own it or you wish you owned it or quit complaining about the public land you use.

This is an insane conversation because all freaking know nothing is "free" in life...either you or someone invested time, energy or money into everything. However, should I choose to, I have no further investment needed in order to hunt the property I own to hunt. Hunting directly costs me: ZERO any longer if I chose to do that.
I don't pay taxes to hunt...I do that because I own land. I don't pay for seed and fertilizers to hunt...I do that because I LOVE habitat work.
I could cease to have hunting cost me one penny because I now own my own property...or I could choose the same thing and hunt only public.
Now we could set here and argue over semantics like "the gas to get you there" or the "time you spend" there....well no kidding...in that case pooping in the morning costs you money in electric bills, water bills and heat bills (or cooling in the summer).
Shave it all this thread and the other became ridiculous....utterly ridiculous. Hunt for free or pay to hunt...deep down each person knows exactly what the question is asking but some decided to troll.
Haven't had my coffee today yet...so apologies as I no doubt bet this is coming across like a ticked off school teacher.

You hit the nail on the head......coffee or no coffee.

How is acknowledging the fact that "owning" your own ground does not equate to free hunting trolling?
Claiming so is just as silly as saying venison is "free" or much cheaper than you can buy beef at the store for.

Fished for the first time in years recently .... had to see if that stupid boat that I bought actually floated. It did. Both the Wabash And White are pretty big right now so might be a couple of weeks before I get out again.
The fishing license was the first license I have bought in years and years too .... a lot more $$ than they used to be.
I figure all told that fishing trip cost me about $15,000 .....

Had to bring up fishing, didn't you A buddy and I did a trip to KY Lake a while back and hired a guide to go crap[pie fishing for a couple days. With guide fees, license, motels, meals gas, etc. we had about $700 apiece in it and caught about (60) nice crappie. I took home half, (30) crappie, they worked out to $23.33 apiece. Good thing I have a farm pond on my home place which I paid a guy to build, and bought fish to stock it with, so I can get some FREE fish to eat

Darn it steiny you beat me to it. My pond was on my property when I bought it I did have some excavation work done on it and I treat it with chemicals from time to time. I have a lifetime hunting&fishing license I bought back in the 80's so I am not sure if the fish I catch out of it actually free.

Do you catch them with your hands or did you buy a pole/line/bait?
