Grandson and I counted 13 turkeys. As soon as we got on the property we saw 3 in a field, one tom. Went further and walked into the woods, walked up on a tom and three hens. They are not feeling any pressure yet. When they saw us they just ambled off.
Went to another area and saw a big tom with a group of hens. We were probably 250 yards away and had binoculars on them. He looked big without the binos. Feeling pretty good about this property. Fortunately I am drawn for 5/2-4 so we did double duty today. Saw a ton of deer sign and a few deer. DNR leaves corn unharvested on this property, cuts trails through thickets and plants cover crops. Amazing! Our license fees at work. Today reinforces my belief that DNR appreciates hunters.
