This something I want to learn. Don't want to train a dog as I already have two. (deadbeats but family) Willing to buy a duck boat. Any thoughts or advice? Joined Ducks Unlimited yesterday for the magazine and local contacts. Beginning of the learning process. Thanks, Jim

First off don't buy any new equipment buy used stuff from craigslist from the guys that are giving up on duck hunting. Second of all and most importantly don't get involved to deeply$$$$ into this dying sport because DUCKS HATE INDIANA.

What is it about ducks and Indiana?

Not sure of current conditions up your way but some awesome hunting up tjere in Hamilton, Madison, henry, Hancock counties and used to be easy permission to field hunt. Find geese feeding and ducks will follow.
Think i-69, geist, summit, outskirts of marion county as refuges. Pattern the birds and it can seem easy.
But in my current location and my mormal hunting spots in laporte co...DUCKS and GEESE hate IN....

Thanks Duff, I am in Northern Hamilton county and I see geese and ducks a lot, both in harvested fields and on water. I live a few miles north of Morse Reservoir. They are on there. Heck they are on my two farm ponds.

I hate to keep saying this word , practice , but practice your calling wether it's your duck or goose call . When I first started using a goose call geese would pay no attention to my calling , the sound that came out of that call sounded like a goose was being strangled . My calling still isn't up to par but here comes that word again I still PRACTICE . Find live wild waterfowl to PRACTICE on .

Hancock county is not good anymore for some reason last few years have been awful.
Best advise i can give is find someone to show you the ropes and make sure you like it (if you dont you have issues) and then go from there.

I don't have issues with any type of hunting. I'll hunt in cold, real cold, snow and rain. Got clothes for all weather. Weather is a sidebar at best. I just want to learn. It is the difference between getting old and not. Learning is my goal.
