About three years ago i went out to one of the farms where i live to bow hunt. I usually start rattling by 8am. Well, needless to say this was going to be a good morning! I seen two big bucks about 3 hundred yrds across a big pasture that had grown up with honeysuckles and briars. I rattled out to them and then grunted several times and then repeated the process a few times while they were standing there! they moved off down a hill. What i didn't realize was that they were circling around me! About 30 minutes later and some more rattling i heard something from behind so i turned around to see this nice buck walking to me! I was sitting behind some briars and he walked right up beside me! I pulled my bow back and let her fly! It was a good hit and the deer went only about 20 yrds and piled up! While i was waiting my usual 10 minutes or so for the dust to settle. The other deer that was with him earlier come out of the briars and seen him laying there so he walked over to him and was smelling of him! THEN!!! He got real stiff and lowered his head and locked antlers with him and pushed him all over the ground! Just tearing him up......dragging him about! I was blown away! COOL STUFF!!!
He got tangled up in some honeysuckle so he stopped and then started backing out of it and shook off real hard. Shaking all tangles off he then walked over to me within 5yrds and stopped for a second. I was nervous at this point cause he had gotten too close for my comfort. But, he eventually walked off down the trail back the way he had come! These two bucks were so close in size that there was alot of rivalry ......but now it was all over!
It was another memory that i will always carry with me and tell at the campfire.
Thanks for letting me share one with you!
