Several times a year the topic comes up regarding hearing aids and I read these conversations knowing that folks who go out to buy their first or even their second pair of hearing aids have no idea how bad they are being RIPPED OFF.
I have been wearing hearing aids for approx.23 years I have tried several different styles so I can tell you from experience that the smaller you go the more money you will pay and these small units will last about 2-3 years and when they fail which they will you will be told that they the company that sold them to you no longer services that model so now you need to buy another new pair.
One of the problems that effects hearing aids is moisture and ear wax so the smaller they are and the deeper they go into your ear the more they will be effected and they are nearly impossible to clean.
The complete in the ear canal models are impossible to clean, hard to change batteries on, hard to adjust and because they are small they are easy to lose. These units will last about 2-3 years before they fail and need to be replaced.
The next best style is the in the ear model which is bigger and fits inside your earlobe they are more visible but they can be cleaned and the volume can be adjusted easier but like the in-ear canal models they to are way over priced and nearly impossible to repair because they are a sealed unit.
NOW LISTEN UP......
The best and most affordable hearing aids are the over the ear model where the hearing aid unit is located behind your ear and a sound tube runs around your ear to in earlobe unit.
The hearing aid id not subjected to ear moisture or ear wax so it is easy to clean because you only clean the ear insert piece.

The hearing aids I wear can be purchased at Cabela's that's right you can buy them from WALKER GAME EAR for a fraction of the cost and how long will the last you ask well I am wearing a 20 year old unit in my right ear and a 2 year old one in my left ear the reason the one in my left ear is 2 years old is because it replaced the 18 year old one my dog chewed up when she was a pup.
The big difference is I had an Audiologist cast mold my ear lob area for a fitted unit which cost approx.$50.00 (see above photo)and to this I attach my Walker Game Ear which didn't cost me anything because I bought them with my Cabela's point however you can buy them for as little as $200.00 each.

The Walker's can be easily cleaned, adjusted and it's very simple to change the battery not to mention that Walker can service your hearing aids.
So to recap you can buy overly priced short life span non repairable hearing aids for an exorbitant amount of money or you can buy Walker's which will last you for along time for a fraction of the cost and should they break you buy another unit and just snap it on to the earlobe unit and your back in business.
THINK ABOUT THIS: hearing aid manufactures want to charge you thousands of dollars for a small device that does 2 things
it amplifies sound and sends it to your ear.
I own a SMART PHONE that can perform countless functions from photography to whatever and it can answer any question in milliseconds the cost of this phone with a 2 year warranty WAS FREE with my free up grade points from Verizon.
Now ask yourself if someone can make something as unique and small as a smart phone and make it cheap enough that they can be given away for free or next to nothing then why do hearing aids cost so dam much.
