Elevated with few exceptions. Can't sit still on the ground and always thinking I could see better from that tree over there.
The exception might be with a gun if I've observed a particular buck in a particular area and I think I could get close enough from the ground to kill it on a single hunt.

In a tree while bow hunting.. usually on the ground or in a 4' elevated box blind with a firearm.

Depends on the wind speed mostly. :-) Lol....been known to climb down and read a book at the base of my tree when it starts really blowing. Little chance to kill anything but I'm in the woods....

We all know that's a complete and total lie. You might climb down and attempt to read a book. More like read two pages and take a nap.

I hunt mainly elevated when hunting alone. With my son we are nearly always on the ground.
I though a nice low recoil rifle would be great for him, but I think I'd rather him shoot something else and hunt from the ground for a few more years.

If I can't get up a tree, I stay home.

Pretty much always up a tree. Treestands give you a greater field of view, as well as getting your scent off the ground. It seems like anytime I've tried to sit on the ground, I can't stay in one spot long before moving on to another one. In a tree, I stay for the duration.

When I first started Deer Hunting, [Gun Hunt] back in the early 1970's; I hunted on the ground. Usually on a hillside looking down a valley or lower area. Harvested many Deer with this method. Later on when I took-up Archery, I started to hunt from a 10 to 12 foot ladder stand. Found that I could see Deer better and this elevated position allowed for closer shots. Now, I always hunt Deer from a ladder stand around 12' above ground level, during rifle season here in Kentucky, as I no longer hunt with a bow.
Sometimes, if the weather is bad like raining, I just hunt out my bedroom window overlooking my back field. This level is around 18' from ground level, and it is very hilly with lots of woods, and no other homes in the area, behind my back field. Shots, at this position, can be 200 yards!

Both. Whatever the situation and conditions warrant.

99% of the time from the ground, opening morning shotgun is usually the only time I hunt from a tree stand. Buddy stepped into his hang on tree stand one evening and the cables broke before he could secure himself to tree. Really changed the way I hunt.
