Just had time to blast a single dove before the rain came this evening.... Hunted with Kyle, Rusty, a few others and my son Kyle made his first dove hunt. He was loving it till the rain and lightning came and we had to cut it short. He's not shooting yet, but before long he'll be holding up doves of his own instead of this one that Dad dropped.

My 6 year old son still prays for "Daddy's hunting buddy's son"! That is very sweet of your son! Thank you very much. Kyle is doing well physically... We go for more x-rays in about a month to see how the disease is progressing in his hip. So far he's lost about 20% of the "ball" or head of his femur inside the joint.....I hope it stays at that point. The thing about Perthes disease is that there's no way of knowing how much longer the bone will deteriorate and fragment until the point that it gains blood flow again and rehardens. Our hopes are that he gets off the crutches in the Spring of '07......but it's not out of the realm of possibilities for him to be on them till Spring of '08. Mentally he had a rough summer... He wasn't able to play on the travel baseball team after making it before we knew of the disease...he's now longing to play fall football like he had since he was 5 years old. Unfortunately some the friends he had soon seemingly abandoned him when he wasn't there to run and play with them as he always did. Kyle was the kid rounding up all the other kids to play baseball or football.....so now the lot where they always played their games sits empty. He's getting spoiled by us, trips to Cincy for Reds games and now we have the Colts to entertain us....so that makes him very happy. He has unfortunately gained some quick lbs. now that he's not nearly as active as he was. He'll be ok though.....just praying that he can toss the crutches away sooner than later and at least walk unassisted. He'll be ok....just needs time. It's easy to keep things into perspective since I routinely am shooting stories inside Riley and I see how worse off he could be. Thanks for asking about him.

Sounds like you're keeping him as active as possible which is a good thing. He will continue to stay in our prayers. Hope to see him on the professional playing field some day!
