February 12, 2016 Hello IWF Members and Friends, The Statehouse has been a busy place this week as bills switched chambers and were referred to committees. We need your help with several legislative bills that are scheduled to be heard in committees next week. You can help by contacting your local legislators: iga.in.gov/legislative/find-legislators/Especially if they are a member of the committees hearing the bills listed below. Click on the committee link to see a list of committee members. Let them know that you: OPPOSE!!! The canned hunting bill, SB 109, was referred to the House Committee on Natural Resources which will meet on Monday, Feb 15th at 10:30a in Room 156-A. We encourage you to contact your representatives and voice your continued opposition to legalizing canned hunting in the state of Indiana. OPPOSE!!! HB 1082, will be heard in the Senate Committee on Environmental Affairs at 10am on Monday, Feb 15th in Room 223. This ‘no more stringent than’ bill blocks the state’s ability to pass state-specific environmental rules addressing state issues. Contact your senators and let them know that this bill is a bad idea for our natural resources, wildlife, and people! SUPPORT!!! HB 1353, the President Benjamin Harrison conservation trust fund bill, has been referred to the Senate Committee on Appropriations scheduled to meet on Thursday, Feb 18th at 9a in room 431. Ask your senators to support this new funding framework for conservation projects across the state. For additional information on legislation this session, please visit the IWF 2016 Bill Watch. Thank you for your help. A call or email really does make a difference! In the past they have opposed the proposal that went to the NRC. They focus on a small number of issues but I wouldn't be surprised if they oppose this in the Senate hearing.
