More like waterfowl shooting, but here goes. Geese are a problem on my pond here behind the house. I let a pair nest on the island, then they told all their relatives. I ended up with Eurasian Water Milfoil in the pond because of them about 6 years ago and I'm still fighting it. Because of that the "No Vacancy" sign has been permanently erected. I let Kate out today to go potty and heard a goose honking on the pond. Since it's late season, I put her back inside and loaded the 12 ga. with Kent 3" and BB's. I snuck out there and the only goose that was there didn't go far. The ice was too thin to safely go out there to get it, so I sent her. She's not happy because I had to use the e-collar to remind her that even though the bird is big (11.6 pounds and she is 38 pounds) she still has to retrieve it if I tell her to. It's not like she doesn't know what to do, she just doesn't "want" to do what I tell her to all the time. (Typical woman and yes, my flame suit is on chubwub!)  She even has "the look" down pretty good too!!  |

That dog has the most disgruntled look I have ever seen, LOL. "If I had fingers I'd be showing you another bird right now!"

She is a beautiful dog! I love the liver and white Brits! Any chance she has any Kentucky bloodline in her? I got my Brit from a breeder in Brownsburg 5 years ago. It was their last litter due to the mother having issues while whelping. Cabella's pedigree has Nolan's Last Bullet and Rusty Bullet listed. Two very famous Brittany Spaniels.

Is Kate a britney? Is she a pointer or flusher? I'd like to get a pointer with a chance for dual purpose duck-goose dog She's an English Springer Spaniel - field bloodlines vs. show dog bloodlines. Flusher vs. pointer. They do have some good pointing Labs now. She's not a good cold weather waterfowl dog, but Springer Spaniels do well for warmer season hunts. They are properly trained, they don't chase after the birds after the flush, they are supposed to sit and only go on a retrieve if their name is called. So, transitioning to non-slip retrievers is pretty easy. I had another one that broke thru ice at the edge of the lake, swam out and retrieved a 13 pound bird, climbed back up on the ice and delivered to hand. She was only 28 pounds when in hunting trim. That one was my once in a lifetime dog, she was special. |

At first, she would only run out on the ice, grab a mouthful of feathers and shake her head. Bad dog.... Took her back to the house, put the collar on, got the training dummy, the big one. Did a couple of retrieves with it, no problem, even a couple of blind retrieves. So, she knew what to do. Back to the goose, same thing so I ticked her and said no; pick it up; here. Once she grabbed it and brought it back I praised her, but she was still miffed..... As you can see.  Nobody can tell me that dogs don't have personalities! |

She has a right to be  ed at geese. I'll send her out on the pond to chase them off during the summer, and she can't swim fast enough to catch them. She will get close, they'll fly about 60 feet and land back on the pond, so it's a love hate relationship. She loves to chase them, but can't catch them. Once she does, it's grab a mouthful and shake. She doesn't do that with ducks or other birds. But, when I tell her to bring it back, she should bring it back! |

Don't feel bad, they DO look similar, you would have seen the difference if you saw her tail - it's only docked 30%. If she was a black and white you would have known.
