Finally connected last night. I caught a male in a dirt hole and a female in a compass set that I read about. First tracks went thru the compass set and got it. It basically is a flat set with all four corners with a type of lure. Idea is to get them to try to smell them all and eventually step on trap. It worked. I bought 3 traps today. I think I'll go set them tomorrow. This is for the Crawfordsville farm; I rarely see them on my food plot land. Someone must take care of them.

I caught one more male last night. I really haven't seen many but they are in the pairing up and mating now so many will move in an area. Good luck. I have taken seven off the farm this year so far and taking them to hoosier trapper sat to be shipped to the nafa auction. There definitely is a learning curve to trapping them but once you catch the first it comes easier. THE guys are hoosier trapper are the best at teaching you and will answer all the questions you have. This is my third year. The first I caught one, the next seven and this year seven also. I only run six traps so it is possible to make a dent with a small line.

It was a lot of fun setting them today; the ground was still frozen though. I have 9 snares out, but I'm not thinking that I did a very good job at that. I think they laughed at them.

I am not a very good snare man. I have only caught one in a snare. I don't use them much as don't have a lot of crawl thru spots and it is hard to avoid deer in them if not. I use calcium cloride flakes from the coop and peat moss inside the jaws to freeze proof my traps because if they do not fire you won't catch them I the flakes all around it and layer it as I am bedding them. I am a believer in getting them bedded solid as it eliminates a lot of dig outs. It has taken me a couple years to really get the hang of a basic dirthole and I have expanded some. I caught one in a pee post and a flat set this year so that was neat. Good luck and if you have any questions just let me know.

Nice job raymar. Jon its really fun trapping and setting snares. You'll get addicted to it. I just wish my job gave me more time to trap. But maybe someday I will start it again. Still got all my stuff too.
