Conference Committee – If the bill passed by one chamber is then amended by the other, the amendment(s) must be agreed to by the first chamber before the legislative process can be completed. Should the first chamber dissent (refuse to give its consent), a conference committee of two members from each house is appointed to work out a version of the bill that will be satisfactory to both houses. All four members must sign the conference committee report and it must be favorably voted on in both houses. Once this has been accomplished, the bill goes to the governor for signature.

So, I'm guessing that means that just the current weapons will be allowed there and not the Centerfire Rifles specifically because of the "state owned land" wording? That would pertain to any property that the state leased too, wouldn't it?

It's all a moot point anyway, as I'd be willing to bet that the bill's author would let it die if private land wasn't added back. Remember, he specifically stated "private land" in his original bill for a reason.

As far as I know. Still only southern part of state, but only on state land. Also no 10' elevation and a 10 round max capacity. In Kentucky, it's the opposite. Most State owned hunting areas only allow shotgun slugs or M/L for Deer Hunting. They are also "Quota Hunts", and one must be drawn to hunt these public lands. We have no elevation requirements but do have the 10-round max. capacity.

Guys do we know the timeline on this yet? I thought that I read that conference committees begin either today or tomorrow.

This is where the backroom deals get made.

This is where the backroom deals get made. So what's your gut feeling for this bill right now Jack, will it make it through with common sense changes or will it die?

Don't know. The author's intent was to take his kid hunting on his own land so who knows?

Well no matter how this plays out. Lives or dies. For whatever reason. North/south line, 10 foot requirement, number of rounds, kill to many deer (even though we have limits still),not the right wording, or someone just plain doesn't want them. That's ok. Just please don't hide behind the safety of HPR reason. This isn't or never has been a reason.

No amount of facts can change their made up minds..

Remember, there have been plenty of people killed in Indiana over the years by deer hunters carrying slug guns.

Correct.. But sometimes perception can become reality in some people's minds. No amount of facts can change their made up minds.. That... And sometimes some one has to DIE before anyone will believe there is a safety problem ...... Tombstone science!! It still ends up the most dangerous part of the gun is the person holding it..no matter what gun they are holding.. One thing that really got me on this (if it was safety involved) is that the politicians that voted for the 10' rule must not have understood that there are WAY more hunters getting injured, maimed for life or killed falling out of treestands..

Please show me the data of how many accidents and deaths we have had. "The Tombstone science". After all we do agree these are HPR's.
