Same here in northern Indiana but that's about to change. My Brother says this entire winter is going to be "UP-and DOWN" Temp. with storms/rainy weather. Next Spring we'll have a late freeze. This coming Summer will be drier than normal, due to El Nino.

My koi are swimming around like they're hungry, but I'm afraid to feed them. Usually this time of year they are just sitting on bottom under the ice.

I lost 2 because of that a couple of years ago when I let the kids feed them on thanksgiving. One of the plants I cut off and put in the bottom has grown about 6" while sitting down there.

You're right. I stopped two weeks ago for the cooler weather.

Koi are not like other fish and eat when they want to ?? They eat when they want to, but if the water gets too cool before it is fully digested then it sits in their stomachs and basically rots. At least that is what I was told when I moved in and they were here and what the lady I buy some from occasionally told me when I told them it looked like the 2 that died had eaten a golf ball. Below 55° surface temp I do not feed them. It's wierd having fish you feel all summer and then quit for 3 months.

You guys have koi? That's so cool. I've always wanted a koi pond, but just lots of other stuff ahead in line.

why not just keep their water warm for them? Like a hot tub Guess I could, but it's 4,100 gallons with a 4200 gph pump and a 4 ft waterfall. Not feeding them is a lot cheaper.
