Some folks have asked me about doing one, so I thought I would post the process as I do it. I skinned out the skull today on my 9 pointer that I killed with my bow on Nov 8th..... it has been in a freezer till yesterday. The boiling process will take place soon, I will post pics as it the process comes along. Here is a pic of the skull skinned and picked as clean as I could get it before the boiling...........

I'm looking forward to this thread as it goes on also. I have cleaned a spike skull and it came out pretty good. I recently received a nice little ten point skull from my bro-inlaw that he found. Nature has taken care of the cleaning part, but the whitening and mounting still need to be done. I'm most interested in the actual mounting of the head to the plaque. Looking forward to hearing how a pro does it.

Well then, that sounds good to me! ;D Here is the boiling process, with DAWN dish washing liquid to help remove the fat, and greasy film that "would be" left on the bone without it. WITCHES BREW ~ anyone like a taste?? Notice the yard stick tied to the antlers to hold the bases up out of the boiling water..... this prevents discoloration of the antlers....

That 10 pointer looks really good, the antlers haven't faded yet! They must have been in a nice shaded area!?! The hard part has been done for ya, be glad of that!

Hey Bowbo... Have the misses go to any beauty supply store, you can get 40% peroxide and it will truly bleach that skull for ya and get rid of any yellowish tint to it. I've heard not to use true "bleach" to bleach the skull....
Pics look awesome! Keep 'em comin.

It's coming along quite nicely. I have been VERY busy the last couple weeks, and have not been taking pics with it as I should. I saved y'all from all the "meat picking/digging" pics at least! LOL I have done one stage of the "bleaching" process. Here is the state that it is currently in............

I agree it is looking good.
How white are you gonna go...until all the sutures in his skull are white?
I plan on soaking mine in peroxide this weekend.

Thanks guys!
I don't think I'm going to go REAL white with it...... I don't want it white white! I'll probably soak it one more time for about 6 more hours...... then start working on the plaque board for it.

After all the boiling do the teeth fall out and have to be glued in?

After all the boiling do the teeth fall out and have to be glued in? No, if they do fall out, then you have "over boiled" it! I do not rapidly boil the skull... I bring to boil, then turn it down just below a boil.
