or just know what it costs .... how much might a guy have to pay to have 5 acres of beans planted while the neighboring farmer is doing his planting?
Farmer would literally have to drive his tractor/planter less than 100 yards to do the planting in a prepared field.
Im just running scenarios through my head on the best way to get the best bang for my buck when I get serious about doing this whole plotting thing.
$200 per acre? More? Less?

Seed alone probably around $65-75/acre. Corn would be around $115/acre.

Not sure a farmer may like the idea of planting crops for your deer growing 100 yards away from him....just saying!

Explain how a farmers make money planting crop for deer to eat in the same area as his crop!
Only way I could see if you offered big money to him to plant!! Other then that he just adding fuel to a fire... IMO

It won't take much to plant it. 5 acres to a farmer isn't much more than a few turns. seed fertilizer and spray will be the major costs. fuel and time will be minimal. Agriview.com

I figured $55 or so per acre seed cost with a planter and half again that much if I broadcast it and packed it in myself. I would take care of the RR spraying after planting.....just know I'd get a much better stand if the seed was put in the ground instead of on it then packed.
I was just thinking out loud....if I have an opportunity I'll just ask him to see if he's interested.
I think I have a company with a forest mulcher lined up to clear the ground for me.....going to frost seed switchgrass in one of the areas I already opened up and move the existing plot to some higher ground.

Have you looked into a "Firmanator"? Basically it's a bean/wheat drill sized to pull behind an ATV that is adjustable for different seed sizes. It would allow you more freedom of timing, placement, and sizing of your plantings.

Let me know how your switchgrass does. Been wanting to plant some.

You use to be able to rent a drill for like 15 per acre from your local USDA center. That was several years ago that I saw it. So I don't know if they still have that. What county you in?
