I had a chance to go duck hunting this last Sunday for the first time, unfortunately there weren't any cooperating birds that wanted to laugh at my shooting ability. The other two guys both had chest waders on while I just had a pair of hip waders that worked OK but man did my feet get cold!! So here's the question: what does everyone wear that duck hunts and how did you make sure the foot size and inseam both fit??? I had ordered a pair from Cabelas years ago and sent them back because my foot size must have exceeded the inseam match by about a foot....no way could I have walked more than a couple of steps without needing a cup for protection Hoping to find something for less than $200 and hopefully I can tell the wife they cost half that much

Cabela's ULTIMATE big man hunting waders. Although I am going to have to take mine back because they've changed manufacturers for sure... my chunky calves are too fat for the boots, and my husband's new pair is also having issues even though they fit perfectly in the past but they may work for you. They have lots of room in the crotch for sure, which is a must for waders, because that's usually the first place they give out.

Thanks Chub but Cabelas and I parted ways a few years ago....told the bean counter that I was dealing with that I wouldn't darken their doors again.

I understand. My husband has not been very impressed with them lately either. Rodgers sporting goods has some very reasonably priced waders. My husband likes their catalog a lot. Plus, free shipping! www.rogerssportinggoods.com/apparel/mens-clothing-and-footwear/waders.htmlI may try out the "toughman" series and see if the boots fit any better on me. Edit: There is a size chart on the bottom that should help you with measurements. I recommend ording a boot size bigger then what you normally wear so you can wear thick wool socks, unless you have feet made out of ice. I also recommend going with 5mm neoprene for durability and extra warmth, unless you really can handle the cold.

Rogers is the real deal.
Get breathable waders. In cold conditions layer up. They are very light and durable.
I do like 5mm neoprene but they have to have brush guard otherwise first hunt in brush or briars will result in leaks.

Do you mean this? www.rogerssportinggoods.com/rogers-2014-toughman-supreme-breathable-waders.htmlMy 5mm neoprene did exactly just that the first time I walked in them in brush.

Yes, these sound very nice. If you plan to hunt cold weather get fleece wading pants too.
Only benefit neoprene waders have over breathable is insulation.

I know they're expensive but I wear Cabela's Supermag waders when it gets good and cold. Never have a problem with them. I've had mine going on 8 years and they don't have the first leak (knocking on wood). My brother's larger framed than I and wears the same in their "stout" size and likes his as well.

Mine just arrived. I like them so far, much easier to put on than neoprene.

Many years ago back in the 1970's I took up Scuba Diving and the Dive shop measured me for a new Custom Scuba Wet Suit. That thing fit like a glove on me. I've long ago outgrown it but would it not be great to be able to order Custom Waders that are custom made to fit you? If they can cut and sew the neoprene together to make a wet suit why can't they do the same thing with duck hunting waders?
Now I see that they have new types of waders for sale these days. These are suppose to be able to breath and they are not made out of neoprene anymore.
I have a pair of neoprene stocking foot waders that I got to use when I go trout fishing in the cold water streams of the Smokey Mountains and other places. But I sweat something terrible inside them and after a few hours of fishing the inside of the waders and my feet are soaked with sweat. I would not want to wear those while out duck hunting.
Another time I was out fishing for trout with the current director of the IDNR Fish and Wildlife Division and our buddy Mike Fox who later worked for the US Fish and Wildlife Agency as an undercover conservation officer who tracked down people dealing with illegal wild game. Mike Fox, Mark Reiter and I were given rubber waders that Mark's Grandfather had laying around. We were up in the streams near Éclair, Wisconsin back in May of 1976. We had all three just recently graduated with BS degrees from Purdue University and this was our last trip together as a group of college kids. We were all excited to get out of West Lafayette, IN and head out into the wilds of Wisconsin to fish for trout and walleye.
I still remember tying to fit into those old rubber waders. Actually back then I wore a 30/30 pants size and the old waders fit me pretty good. I don't remember them leaking nor being uncomfortable. And I caught several brown trout that day on worms. But then again when you are only 22 years old you don't complain as much as when your nearing 65 and having to sign up for Medicare.
Time sure goes fast when you are having fun.
I'm trying to find a new pair of Wrangler Camo Five Pocket Jeans. I went out last night and went to two or three different stores looking for the right size. I found on pair that were 44/30 but the inseam was too long and the pants were dragging on the floor as I tried them on. I could barely button them up. I've been gaining weight and holding water and have outgrown my old new camo pants. (two pairs that I can't even button anymore). I'm thinking about having stomach surgery if things don't change. But then I've lost 6 lbs this last few days. Yea I cheated and took a Loop Diuretic and pumped out a bunch of fluid. My left foot was swollen and the calf was swollen too. My Blood Pressure was up and I'm taking more BP medicine than ever before. I fear that my heart is not pumping like it should even with the blood pressure medicine. My heart doctor prescribed a new medicine for me to take if needed ( 5mg of Calcium Channel Blocker) but I'm not going to start taking that until I find that I can't lose more weight with exercise. I got out the other day and climbed up on the roof and cleaned out the gutter and racked and cleaned two yards and in the process of doing that and taking the diuretic medicine my BP came back down to 124/80 which is great and my left foot is not swollen anymore. I fear that I might be having congestive heart failure as I've already suffered four different heart attacks and an open heart surgery operation. I'm almost 6 years post op now and still going all but slower than I once did. I just got news the other day that one of my old friends who's ten years younger than me died from a sudden heart attack. I had not talked to him in over twenty years when his older brother called me last week to tell me the bad news. So take care of your selves while you still can as you never know when your time is up. And my younger friend was very healthy and fit. But you can look OK and still get a blood clot or clogged arteries and not know it. That's why they call Heart Disease and Coronary Artery Disease the Silent Killer.
When I went out and started buying handguns to carry for self defense I had to get all new larger shirts in order to hide the gun and keep it from printing. I'm wearing 3XL sized shirts these days which sucks. But you do what you have to do. I'm going out today and walk some. I found that after two days of doing a lot of walking that the swelling in my lower extremities was reduced and my Blood Pressure went back down without having to take any new medication. That's the good news.
The heavier you get the harder it is to walk. My feet hurt from carrying all this weight. It's hard to stop eating sometimes. Even though I try to eat better and eat more fruits and vegetables my weight keeps going up for some reason. I have problems with my joints which may be caused by the diabetic medicine that I've been taking for the last 6 years. But recently my blood sugar has been under control without taking one of my diabetic medicines that has the side effect of making your joints hurt. So discontinuing the Tradjenta medicine and going to the physical therapist has helped my elbow pain to go away and my Adhesive Capsulitis problem with my right shoulder get better. I was determine to return my right shoulder back to normal after I pulled it out of the socket in Dec 2013 while on a tread mill at the heart group doing a stress test on my heart. I almost went off the end of the treadmill when I fell on the treadmills. I was able to hold on with only my right hand/arm for about 10 to 15 seconds until the nurse and doctor were able to turn the treadmill off. I was going way to fast for me to keep up with it but the doctor wanted to get my Heart Rate up higher so that he could test it better. But I pooped out before the test was done and tried to get off the damn treadmill before I collapsed from exhaustion. I got the left foot off to the side of the moving thread but the right foot didn't make it causing me to fall down onto my right knee. Now my right knee is screwed up too. I hurt it again while out bird watching and trying to get out of the back seat of the Birds Unlimited Owners Kia SUV. He got out and left me in the back seat and I could not move his seat up in order to get out of the back of his vehicle. I tried to squeeze out of the car but got stuck between the back of the drivers seat and the window post in the back. I got stuck with my right knee bent about 45 deg and with my left leg not able to touch the ground. I was stuck there with my right knee in the bent position with all my 255 lbs of weight on my bent right knee and I must have torn something inside my knee. It still is painful from both these accidents. This makes it hard to get up and down at times. Luckily I can walk without pain still. But if I fall down it's harder to get back up. Sucks to get old.
