A couple miles from here there is a trap with a skunk in it. It's a cage trap set for raccoons last month before the season ended. That skunk has been in there for over 2 weeks now. The property is posted and the owner is a big animal rights supporter. The trapper has a "friend" who works on the estate who lets him in when the owner is out of town. The trapper is afraid of getting sprayed if he tries to release the animal, and won't shoot it because he doesn't want his cage "stunk up." He's waiting for it to die. This guy is one of those we read about all the time. I've known him for years and he thinks things like game laws and such don't apply to him. He's been caught before, but he sees it as, harassment not that he was wrong. After all HE'S a GOOD guy. Someday he's going to do something that really gets him in a jam. And will probably screw us all up along with him.

That's a real shame. Sad thing is, although this happens to be a trappin situation, this happens in all aspects of the outdoors. There are always those that do things that things that aren't right in the outdoors. Those are the type of situations that give all of us as outdoormen bad reputations. I'd be doin something about the situation.............my first step would be doin what is right for the critter.............skunk or not!

Believe me if I could get in there I would turn it loose myself. But I DON"T have an "in" and right now I can't walk. It probably wouldn't eat at me if the guy didn't refer to himself as a trapper all the time.

Call it in....................you don't have to give your name! Trapper or not "our" furture's as sportmen ride on little deals just like this one. All that critter was doin was being a skunk. Do we need to control skunks........absolutely! That doesn't mean a skunk should sit in a trap for 2 weeks because this so called trapper is to big of a ***** to dispatch it or turn it loose! If he can't turn/dispatch a skunk w/out gettin sprayed then he isn't much of a trapper anyway. Sure a skunk will spray on occasion, but this one sounds like it's probably to weak to move anyway.................do the right thing!!
