I will be hunting at Sugar Creek later this month. I will be using a 20 gauge. I will be hunting Pheasant and quail. What load do you recommend. In past I have used Walmart Federal value pack 7-1/2. Is this good enough or other recommendations.
Thanks in advance

greetings Over here in the UK i use a twenty bore a lot, it is an old Scottish gun that was built for paper cases so i use them in it, it ejects them no bother, but struggles with plastic cases. I use number six British in it because that's all they make in paper cases,i use number sevens in my 16 bore guns, if you keep your ranges sensible and hit them at the right end anything will bring them down. My old friend used to say shoot were they are going not were they have been, lol and kill the front end and the back end will follow, lol enjoy yourself regards Billy

For a combo hunt I'd go with 6's as well

Just a quick note scout, I'd mostly recommend sako's advice on the follow through as well as others here. But, before concerning yourself with what size shot, I'd also suggest you know the affect of your choke constriction, point of aim and point of impact. In other words, pattern your gun with various shot at various yardages. I've seen many pheasant dropped with a .410 and a gunner that knew his gun well. I've also seen many pheasant glide to fly another day simply because the 12 gauge gunner had little knowledge of how his boomstick patterned!

greetings exactly highcottonguide I once had an aya in my younger days and i could not hit a barn door with it, i stupidly persevered with it for two years blaming my shooting, then i got a German gun in from my uncle to repair the ejectors on, i repaired it and he said take it out and try it. I was invited to a pheasant shoot and mercy i killed every bird in range so it was not me. Next shoot i took the aya and missed again, at the shoot was a gunsmith friend of mine and after the shoot i said take this thing away please and if it is OK sell it, if not ring me and let me know what is wrong. While past then the phone went it was my friend laughing he said you never were going to hit anything with that gun it was shooting a mile left, i got it back after his work, and then when it went off things started coming down, lesson,,,, pattern every gun you buy. No good putting sixes through if it likes sevens or fives they are all different, i have seen sevens completely transform a 16 bore recently he was putting fives in it and was missing everything i could of been un honest and bought an edwinson green very cheaply, but instead i give him a box of eights to try and he started killing pheasants he has since went to sevens, but it transformed a lovely gun he was about to move on. He loved his gun. regards Billy
